Weekend Review: The Productive Edition

Image
So I hobbled around all day Friday with my poor little stabbed toe. It's mostly better now. I can at least put pressure on it to walk properly. *thumbs up* I hobbled to town Saturday morning for groceries and finally--FINALLY--was able to finish purchasing some new towels. I think I mentioned a while back that I was saving money for some new towels as my old ones were getting sad, thin and frayed. Well, it took me a bit longer to finish saving the money than I thought it would but finally did it and am now the proud owner of twelve pillowy soft Better Homes and Garden bath towels. (Found at Wal-Mart.) They are truly the softest towels I've ever touched and are heavenly to handle. But. They shed. As in, not only was the lint trap in the dryer savagely filled to the limits but they shed on my skin as I'm drying off, too. *sigh* Which means, kids, they won't be heavenly soft and fluffy for long. Annoying. I could have saved myself a few bucks and gone with the chea...

Just Call Me Bloody Toe

So, I kinda got stabbed last night. Don't freak out. I wasn't attacked by anything other than an errant steak knife. :-/ As I was clearing the silverware out of the drain board cup thing, a rubber handled spatula got into a heated argument with the steak knife and ousted the knife before I was ready for him. And, well, the knife plunged head first and right into my left big toe where it stabbed me. I don't think it's all that bad but it sure loved/loves to bleed. I left a trail of blood from the kitchen to the bathroom and had a hard time getting the blood flow staunched enough to get a band-aid on it. Good thing I'm not the sort to get woozy at the sight of her own blood, right? Hurts like a son-of-a-biscuit, it does. Whole toe is sore and tender. I almost called in stabbed to work this morning but figured I wouldn't get a whole lot of sympathy for my plight. haha Meanwhile, I'm walking all wonky at a snails pace and I can't decide what hurts ...

Pressed and De-pressed

"The common definition of depression states that a multitude of the following symptoms be present for a two-week period: fatigue and decreased energy, feelings of pessimism, overeating or appetite loss, insomnia or early-morning wakefulness, loss of interest in hobbies and activities once found pleasurable, and irritability and restlessness." I lifted that description of depression from an article about how drugs for depression are bad. Well, maybe the article was about how our society uses drugs as a band-aid for everything under the sun, especially depression. Either way, the description of depression is what grabbed me. I've "studied" up on depression before because, well, you know. I tend to get in the dumps a lot. But always before whenever I read anything about depression I would think, Okay. That doesn't really fit me so I must not be depressed. I'm fine. Must just be PMS'd or maybe I'm just overly dramatic. But. That description u...

If at first you don't succeed...

So, ya'll remember when this happened, right? Baking disaster of epic proportions, it was. Well, maybe not epic. I mean, nobody died. Nothing caught fire or, you know, exploded.  Well, other than the cake itself upon meeting the plate. But pretty disastrous, anyhow. If you recall, I still ate it. But soup was not exactly the consistency I was going for. :-/ The recipe was too tempting to give up on, though and since I'm pretty sure it was all the extra sugar that messed it up, I decided to try again on Sunday. I had skipped lunch with the folks and just went on home because I was tired and had worked the day before. Whenever I work on Saturday I need that time at home alone on Sunday. Otherwise I'm just not fit to live. But since Sunday lunch with the folks usually includes some sort of dessert...well...enter the redemption of the "Single Girl Melty Chocolate Cake"! Not gonna lie. I as totally tempted to leave in the ramekin and just ea...

Love you. Mean it.

Fat Tuesday

I love that there's a day to celebrate fat! hehehe Speaking of fat, I'm sad to report that I weigh more now than I did this time last year when I set my weight loss/exercise goals of 2012. Which means, kids, that not only did I fail at my goals last year (dang knees!) but I will not be setting any NEW goals. Have I mentioned that already? I'm having a sense of de ja vu. Or maybe that's just because I've mentally written dozens of posts in the two and a half weeks I've been working all by my lonesome in the stacks. I'm not allowed to have headphones so to keep my mind occupied in the silence when I'm not wrestling with a problem, I mentally write blog posts, twitter updates, fb status's, arguments with my sister, etc. So I don't really know anymore what I've actually written and what I merely thought about writing. Anyhoo, so yeah. No goals this year. I'm just going to do the best I can with each situation I've been given and se...

Slammed

You'll have to forgive the lack of postage this week. It's been a hum-dinger in more ways than one. Even now I don't have time for a real post because I'm supposed to be elsewhere doing something productive. Instead, I'll leave you with a bitter lesson I'm having to learn today: Sometimes you just have to learn to live with the consequences of your behavior. And yes, I behaved badly to someone this week and am suffering the consequences of not just a guilty conscience but of the reality of the situation I created for myself as a result of said bad behavior. Another bitter lesson: What has been done can not be undone regardless of apologies.

Weekend Review: The Icing Down Edition

So. Nothing really all that interesting happened this weekend. I think there was some sort of...I dunno... sporting event that took place one night? But I don't really know anything about that. Sporting events are not my thing. What I do know is that I actually vacuumed the bedroom carpets Saturday. Yes, I did. Mr. Bissell was all, "What the crap are you doing to me?" with all the dog hair. But really, that's, like, his job so I told him to just suck it up.  Pahahaha ANYhoo, I also cleaned the kitchen, washed three loads of laundry, swept, grocery shopped and... Oh yeah! I did do something interesting...I finally took down the little Christmas tree in my bedroom! :-O I know, right? Now my bedroom looks all nekkid and desparklized. Imma  hafta come up with something to fill the void now, I guess. A woman's work is never done. ;-) I also spent a lot of time in between chores with my legs propped up and iced down. Between that and the mega hits of ibupr...

At The Cross

Image
I have a thing for crosses. I have them hanging on at least two walls in my living room, have a painted one in my kitchen and wear a cross necklace occasionally.  I always stop at the flea market vendors who sell them and pet them and wish I could afford them. Yes, they are beautiful to me but more than that, they're comforting. It's that visual reminder that God's son, Jesus, died on a cross and saved my soul from eternal damnation. But even more that THAT, it's a visual comfort that through the cross, there is a place for me with Jesus up in Heaven someday. On days when I feel unloved, unwanted, useless and ugly, I can look to the cross and remember that all this junk here on earth is just a temporary stop on my way to the place that He has prepared for me. With that in mind, you won't be surprised to discover what my latest craft project was. ;-) When we went to the flea market after Thanksgiving, Emmy and I found a vendor who sold unpainted and unadorne...
