Weird Week

Or weird life, I could say. I don't even know what normal is anymore. Maybe weird is the new normal. All I know is I wish my life were boring again. I never complained about it being boring so I don't know why it keeps going haywire. Or maybe haywire is the new boring. Gah! I just want to have nothing going on anymore. I want to come to work, sit at my desk and play with books, go home and sit on the couch with my Libs and watch TV or read. I don't want to have to deal with meetings, or infections, or medications, or presentations or exhibits. I'd rather not have to have lengthy conversations planning things that need doing but can be put off for another ten years. I could do without being asked difficult questions on subjects that don't really concern me. I want someone to just tell me what they want me to say so I can say it and get on with my life because nobody really cares what I think as if I even think all that deeply anyway! (run-on nonsensical sentence ...

New Routine

Image
She hears the water running and dreads what's coming.  Soooooo not happy with this whole soaking her feet thing.  But the reward is so delicious. (Scrambled egg that also disguises her meds.) Just a week and a half more to go, Libs!! We'll both be glad when this foot is all healed up.

Oh noes!!

So Libs has an infection in her wittle paw. Had to take her to the vet this afternoon and came home with two weeks worth of antibiotics, pain meds, antiseptic spray and instructions to soak her foot in an Epsom salt bath twice a day. Yeah we're going to have a lot of fun with that.

Life These Days: A (mostly) Photo Essay

Image
I took Libs to the vet a couple of Friday's ago to get her nails trimmed. To reward her (and myself) for her good behavior we drove on into town and got donuts from the best bakery ever. Also, she loved going through the McDonald's drive-thru for a frappe. She didn't even bark at the cashier!   I made these for Valentine's Day. Straight up sugar cookies (a dozen), carefully iced to "perfection." Except without the perfection. I also made some more  Awesome Cookies  (two dozen) because my friends didn't get to try them last time. I'm everyone's favorite friend now.   Yes. I buy my friendships with baked goods. What of it?   Libs likes to hug my leg when she's sleeping next to me. No lie. Whenever she's stretched out beside me, she's hugging my leg. Milo has to cool his belly every now and then. Look how long he is. Our mile long Milo.   He's also a shameless belly rubbing beggar. Believe it or not, m...

Happy Love Day

Image
So I may be single, still, but I gots lotsa love.  The kids both made me a card and Sis2 made me some goodies.   Then went to the folks house where Daddy grilled steaks and I brought Awesome Cookies and Daddy gave me a sweet card and some Turtles...my fave.  Now I'm snuggled up with the sweetest puppy God ever made.  So yeah. I'm kinda digging this day of love thing. Cause really, true love comes in many forms. I'm so glad I figured that out. Makes life (this day especially) so much less depressing. ;-) Also, I love your guts. *smooch*

"Snow Day" Day Two

Image
So, still no snow and not a lot of ice but to be safe, the entire state shut down. Only half joking. So I'm at home again, Praise Jesus. I really needed this house bound break from the world. I've done nothing but be lazy. Except for making these: I ate some for breakfast this morning. What.  It's cereal with vitamins and junk.  The rest of the past two days had been some version of this: And it. Has. Been. GLORIOUSE.  Not gonna lie. I wouldn't be upset if they shut us down again tomorrow. :-D

Deceptively Clear

Image
So everything's closed today for this so-called "winter storm". Which means I got to sleep in this morning. So imagine my surprise when I woke up and the yard looked like this: Nuthin'.  But then Libs and I went outside and discovered that the grass is just a tad slippery and the roof is all dressed up in ice jewels.  Glad I didn't have to decide on my own whether or not to try and make it in to work. I'd have been deceived.  Off to snuggle with the Devil Pup. :-D

Getting a Jump on Valentine's Day: A Cookie Tale

Image
So, I did this Saturday.     It is a combination of a couple of recipes that I sort of mashed together. Not sure what I'm calling them except for AWESOME. That there, my friends, is a sugar cookie, topped with caramel and then dipped on both sides in dark chocolate. Otherwise known as decadent yummy goodness. I started with this as my sugar cookie base. It makes a dozen decent sized heart shaped cookies. It is an excellent cut out sugar cookie on it's own. I've made it three times all with excellent results. Also, FYI, Dessert for Two is a great site for small serving recipes on all kinds of desserts. The one dozen chocolate chip cookie recipe is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe I've every used/tasted. Then the second part of the recipe inspiration came from here . I tested the original peanut butter twix cookie recipe a few weeks ago to so-so results. Actually, I left the peanut butter off of my test because, well, I wasn't really feeli...

Not a happy camper!

Remember a while back I mentioned that loggers were cutting timber from down my road? Well, they have officially moved down to the worst possible spot and one of my dreaded nightmares is coming true.   Witness, the new view from my front porch. :-(   Not only are they cutting the lovely woods that face my house but they have set up their equipment there which is noisy, ugly and ruts up the road. The whole thing makes me sad, disgusted and anxious. I dread the end result because I fear all that lovely tranquil privacy I've enjoyed for nearly five years will be gone and all I'll be able to see is highway where I once only saw trees.   I mean, I knew when I bought the house that someday this might happen. With the economy the way it is and people needing money, it was only a matter of time before someone sold all that gorgeous timber. But I had hoped that it would never actually happen. Even when they started cutting further down the road I told myself that ...
