Brain Leakage

Apparently my brain leaks from my ears. Either that or I have the earliest case of pre-senile dementia on record. I can't remember squat. Got to work this morning and stopped by the ladies room on my way to the office. As I was washing my hands, I looked up in the mirror. *slaps hand on forehead* So that's why I got to work so early. I forgot to put any make-up on! Granted, I only wear eye make-up (liner, shadow and mascara) but I forgot. And this is something I do every darn day (except Saturdays unless I'm going somewhere special)--not like it's an every now and then thing. *sigh* But wait--there's more. I also forgot to bring my snacks. Tea, sugar free pudding cups--you know, those little break time treats I count on to get me through the day. Second day in a row of forgetting those. I did, however, remember to put the trash out. And I think *fingers crossed* I remembered to put Libby in her "condo." *sigh* In (much) happier news, Chuck returned last ...

Smells like...

Crap? Ugh! Yes, that was the fragrance that greeted me at home when I walked through the door Friday afternoon. My first thought was that the sewage was messed up. It wouldn't have been a surprise with everything else I've had to deal with since moving into this apartment. But no. I followed my nose to the Devil Pup's bed. Ugh! She'd had tummy troubles and bless her heart, it was all in her bed, on the walls of her crate, in her hair on her feet. Just absolutely horrific. Needless to say, I hustled her outside where she was "sick" again and then threw her in the tub. The next two hours were a frenzy to wash her bedding, scrub her crate, Fabreez the carpet in her bedroom, Lysol, etc just to get the smell out. It was just that terrible. She got "sick" one more time (outside, thank the Lord!) and was kind of puny the rest of the night. I ended up having to trim the long hair on her booty cause it kept getting nasty whenever she got "sick." Now...

Fall is more than pretty leaves...

It's also NEW TELEVISION!!! Yay!! It isn't sad, not at all, that I'm so excited. Television isn't my life but it sure makes it funner! hehe So okay, lets see...what am I looking forward to? Well, I just realized that for the next little while Sunday nights are going to be "Wife Nights." Not because I have a wife (lol) but because Desperate Housewives returns Sunday night at 8 followed by Army Wives on Lifetime. Both about wives but very different kinds of wives. hehehe Monday night...(wait for it...) Chuck returns! Yee Haw! I've been missin' him somethin' fierce these last several months. Zachary Levi and his yummy self...*swoon* And of course there's also Heroes on Monday nights. Tuesday nights, I never really much cared for in the past. Last season Tuesday's were my Netflix nights because there was nothing worth watching on TV. This season, however, I think I'll tune in to watch The Mentalist . I watched the premiere this past Tue...

Fall is more than pretty leaves...

It's also NEW TELEVISION!!!

Take that, bad week!

So, yesterday I got my a/c back AND the mess in the backyard is being worked on. Whatever test I was taking this week, I think I passed. I pray I did, anyway. And just so happens, I found this song...a new one by Faith Hill. It just feels like a fit after the rough week I had. Red Umbrella Sometimes life can get a little dark I'm sure I've got bruises on my heart Here come the black clouds full of pain Yeah, you can break away without the chains Your love is like a Red Umbrella Walk the streets like Cinderella Everyone can see it on my face So let it rain It's pourin' all around me Let it fall No it ain't gonna drown me After all I'm gonna be okay So let it rain You can wear your sorrow like an old raincoat You can save your tears in a bottle made of gold But the glitter on the sidewalk always shines Yeah, even God needs to cry sometimes Your love is like a red umbrella Always there to make me better When my broken dreams Are fallin' from the sky Let it rain...

Wearing Out My Welcome

The A/C at my apartment is STILL not fixed. *sigh* The motor he had purchased for the fan was bad and by the time he got back to the store last night they had closed. So I'm supposed to meet him again at 12 today. Meanwhile, I'm seriously wearing out my welcome at my folks' house. Mama, I think, is okay with me still being there. Daddy, however....not so much. Friday night when I straggled home he thought it was funny. Last night...well, last night he hardly spoke to me at all. According to Mama my continued presence is hindering a particular, uh, activity . And that's all I'm saying on THAT. Which I guess answers a question I'd had rolling around in my head for a little while. Moving in with my parents, even for a limited time, is strictly out of the question. Not that I seriously wanted to anyway but it was a perceived option in case I needed somewhere to land in between leases. You know, in case I'm unable to find acceptable housing once my current lease ...

Oh, Mama! hehehe

I was right. He's as hawt in person as he is on the phone. *swoony sigh* Also very professional. LOVED that...even if I wouldn't have minded if he'd hit on me. hehehe I know, I know. I gripe when MM made a pass but the difference between MM and hawt a/c man is that hawt a/c man treated me with respect. And just in that brief period of time he was there, at no point could I imagine him saying he'd like to rub me and my sexy fat calves. lol He listened politely as I explained what the problem was and immediately got to work and the best part (besides his hawtness) is he actually KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING!!! (Or appeared to, at any rate.) Wheeee! lol A/C's still not fixed, though. He had to leave to go get a motor for the fan and then he had another appointment he had to get to. He's supposed to call me back at 3 to make sure I can still meet him at 4 so that he can finish up. I think he's even going to replace the outdated thermostat. Yay! The eyecandy was tot...

My Life Hates Me

I stole...err... borrowed that sentiment from Pet. LOL I'd never thought of it in those terms but yeah, it summs things up fairly well. I'm actually feeling the love today, though. Briefly. I'm a little excited to go meet the a/c man. Yeah, I know. I has a weird, right? But I had to call him to confirm my appointment today and he sounds really hot. LOL (I has a boy crazy, too?) You know, it always scares me how easily I slip back into "child" mode when I stay with my folks. Mainly when it's just me who's staying. You know, not when either of the sisters or Emmy are staying over. The past couple of nights I just had to laugh to myself. My mom in the kitchen, my dad in his chair and me in my room watching television just like the good ol' days of my senior year of college. I think I see my parents more now than I ever did back then when I, you know, lived with them. I had to escape to my room last night, though. Heroes premiered and the folks, they are...

Pick on Jana Week/Month

*sigh* I called this morning to get the fee so that I can pay my speeding ticket--$172. That pretty much clears out three and half months worth of savings. *heavy sigh* And now on top of that I'm ready to chuck my landlord into a river. He thinks I'm an idiot. That's the only conclusion I can come up with. He thinks I'm an idiot and it doesn't matter the state of disrepair my apartment is in. The a/c went out this weekend. Of course, being on a weekend, it's hard to get anything like that repaired anyway. But it doesn't help that my landlord just refused to return my calls to let me know what the plan of attack was. I didn't get any response from him until I got to work this morning and emailed him. Then, we (I took my mother with me as a witness) finally met him at the apartment at lunch and he proceeds to try and talk me into believing that it's working. I had to get a little loud and talk OVER him to get him to understand that I'm NOT stupid a...

Blech! Ugh! Ack!

I really, really, really wish life came with "opt out" clauses. You know, if you don't like how your life is going right now, you could opt out and start over. Last night I got a freakin' speeding ticket on the way to Wal-Mart of all places. Always knew Wal-Mart was trouble. lol I had just pulled out (gunned it to beat an oncoming car. I know. Bad.) and he flicked on his blue lights, did a U-turn in the middle of the street and came after me. Apparently I was doing 45 in a 30 mph zone. Crap. And the one time I was already in a bitchy mood so I couldn't even drum up the energy to TRY and talk my way out of it. I had a headache and was on my way to spend money I don't have on something I didn't really want and then this hunky in a uniform gives me flack for driving pretty much the same speed as every other person in town. He musta had a quota or it was just my "lucky" day. But dag-gum if I hadn't been so pissed off at him I might have been tem...

The Devil Pup Reads

Image
Or so she'd like you to think. She's actually doing her best to make sure Mama doesn't get to read. lol Guess what she's "reading"... Yep. Even Libby's gotten on the Twilight bandwagon. hehehehehe

Serves Me Right

It got a sweet little blister on one of my toes. That's what I get for walking to Burger King for lunch. *sigh* BUT...the BK stacker?? Yum. Like, YUM. I'm in love with the BK Stacker. Totally worth the blister. If only they'd put a Burger King in the Library next to the bagel shop. hehehe No, it's prolly good they didn't. I'd be broke AND larger than a couple of houses. Heck, I'm already the size of a double wide trailer! lol Mama went to the hospital with her dad today so I was on my own for lunch. Pa-Paw H. had cataract surgery on one eye this morning. He'll finally be able to SEE again. He's so excited. Of course, he has to go back in a few weeks to have the OTHER eye done. I had this whole wonderful blog entry in my head but not it's gone. I hate it when that happens. Totally sucks. Anyway, I think I'm really getting old. Besides the fact that thirty is creeping up on me, I'm getting cranky. lol I have no patience for the "youngs...

The Things You Miss

It's strange, really. Who knew I'd miss being barked at? lol It was haaarrd being at the folks' house the weekend. I'm not ashamed to say that I sobbed like a baby when I first got there. Fortunately, they were gone on their anniversary get away weekend so Libby was the only witness. It's just the quirky little things like the way he'd bark until he saw that it was me at the door and then he'd jump the little front half of his body up and down in excitement. Or the way he'd twist his head around for me to scratch his neck. And a couple of time while I was there I could have SWORN I heard him whining for me to pick him up. I swear, it sounded just like him. It wasn't Libby because she was off rambling trying to find stuff to get into. As the night went on, I said my good-byes to him. It's hard letting go. To finally know in my heart that he's well and truly gone. I mean, I knew it before but until I saw and felt his absence it wasn't real...

Holy Outline, Batman!

You know, I haven't thought a lot about writing in a long time. Oh sure, I write off and on for Drifters. (These days more off than on.) Writing with the notion of getting published? Not so much. For a lot of different reasons I sort of shoved that into the background of my mind, assigning it as frivolous. Sort of like my long ago and childish dream of making it in Nashville. You know the place. The place where your insecurities disregard all the things you thought you wanted to do but never thought you were good enough for? Yeah. That place. And so with the dream left to shiver in the dark recesses of my insecurities I just--I didn't think about it anymore. I've continued writing for Drifters mostly because there are other people counting on my participation. But I find myself resisting. The so-called Muse reluctant to get too emotionally involved in it because even there I find myself thinking, "I suck at this. Why do I bother? Others are so much better at it than me...

Getting on with it...

Mama seems to be better. She can say his name without crying so that has to be a good sign, right? I know it's still going to take some time but at least she's showing some progress, right? In other news, we had a bit of an adventure (or what passes for one 'round here) yesterday. When we got in Mama's car yesterday it wouldn't crank. Wouldn't even make a pass at trying to crank. We tested it to see if it was the battery. Didn't appear to be the battery. We just knew it was the starter. Mama had an appointment she had to get to so she called for a tow and then Sis2 and Lyssa came to pick us up and drop Mama off at her appointment and then me at my apartment to get my car to go pick Mama up. We'd decided that she'd just take my car home since it'd be the next day before the shop could get to her car. Well, I go get gas ($3.47!! Whahoooo! and how sad is it to be happy about $3.47 gas??) and then pick Mama up. The tow driver had called her to say th...

A Pictorial: Nipper (1998-2008)

Image
He was a sweet boy. Calm and playful all at once. He loved his girls and he loved us fiercly. He celebrated birthdays with us... And Christmas...The boy LOVED Christmas. He was all about some presents! Was always there to help us with our homework... Was a handsome "little baby man". And a perfect snuggle buddy. So long, Mr. Nipper. You are missed more than you know. Have fun chasin' lizards in the big yard in the sky. Love you lots.

Nipper

Things are not looking good for Mama's dog, Nipper. She called me this morning upset. He's apparently in enough pain now that he doesn't want her touching him. He snaps and growls at her. He can no longer hold his head up and this morning there was blood in his urine. We talked (and cried) for a little while this morning and I think she's decided to go ahead and have him put down. She doesn't want to make this decision at all but no one will make it for her. I tried talking her through it this morning, asking her what she'd want us to do if she were Nipper. She said she wouldn't want to be here. I told her she already had her answer, then. I know it's unbelievably hard. I tear up just thinking about it. But it's tearing her apart seeing him this way. I know there are those in the world who say, "He's just a dog." And he is, indeed, a dog. But he's also a best friend, a precious furbaby, a k-9 brother and a sweetheart. He's so mu...

Twilight and Doggy Drama

So yeah. I caved and bought the paperback of Twilight . I was grocery shopping at Wally World Saturday morning and for some reason veered off to the book section. I haven't done in there in ages since I mostly get my books on-line now. Somehow in the twenty minutes I spent browsing the silly book just jumped into my buggy and made itself at home. I gotta say, I loved it. I read it in one day and I haven't read a book start to finish in one day in a looooong time. And it ain't no sissy sized book, either. But I almost literally could not put it down. I was so engrossed in the story that I just had to finish it. I was very wary going into it. I'd read some pretty heavy reader reviews on it in the past several weeks. One or two had me thinking that it'd be the kind of book that tended to make dents on my walls. So naturally I searched for evidence of all the things they'd pointed out as reasons why they felt that it was a dangerous novel for young women to read. I ...

But...but...all my friends are doing it.

hehehe Guess I'm gonna hafta break down and read the Twilight series. Everyone and their sister is reading it or has read it and I really feel left out. But I've read such wildly conflicting reviews that I'm half afraid I'll hate it. Which is the feeling I get. It's one you either love or hate. You think Edward's chocolate dipped in sexy or he's an obsessive control freak dipped in borderline abusive. In other teen subjects, anyone else watching ABC Family's Secret Life of the American Teenager ? Anyone else think it's a bunch of hooey? I've known a lot of pregnant teens (half of my friends in high school had at least one kid by the time we graduated!) and this show seems to be entirely at odds with the reality of my former teen years. For one, when girls at our school got pregnant it was no big deal. At least not in the way portrayed on this show. No one tried to shame them into quitting, there was no alternative school, no one had to "ral...

If I were a shoe, I'd be a strappy sandal.

And I'm a decent speller, a fun dish of ravioli and even aliens don't want me. LOL Yeah, I took some blogthings quizzes that Heather had on her blog this morning. Fun times. Fun times. This is about the only one that seemed to really fit, though. (Well, except for that dominant stuff. I'm a doormat, remember?) Cuz ya'll? Ya'll know I can't spell worth a darn. hehehehe What Your Bed Says About You Outward appearances are very important to you. You do your best to look good and have an attractive home. You try to be an organized person, but you often fall behind. Certain parts of your life tend to fall into chaos. You are not very high maintenance in general, but you are high maintenance about a few things. In relationships, you tend to be quite dominant. You enjoy taking charge. You tend to be a dreamy, head in the clouds type of person. You think in terms of possibilities. You are a total homebody. You are happiest when you're at home. What Does Your Bed Sa...

Today doesn't suck. Much.

No coffee spills today. But it's nearly noon and I haven't eaten lunch yet so there's still time. But I did roll out of bed on the first notes of the clock radio. No snooze button usage. You know, I didn't walk but one morning last week because of weather and laziness issues so imagine my surprise when the Devil Pup and I stepped outside and were greeted by darkness. When the crap did that happen? We walked anyway. Streetlights are a lovely invention. Especially to a country bumpkin such as myself who is used to utter darkness lit only by moonlight until the sun comes up. No flashlights necessary in town, though. So we made our little trek to the end of the street and you know, I sorta realized that I had missed it. It isn't a particularly long walk, nor is it a particularly scenic one. But I had missed the quiet. The stillness of the wee morning hours. The silliness that is the DP as she struts her cute little furry tush and pretends she isn't with me. "I...

Are we SURE it isn't Monday?

Cuz it sure feels like one. Ugh! I hit the snooze three times this morning. I just did NOT want to get up at all. I don't know if having an extra day on the weekend is good or not. Sure, I enjoyed having that extra day but it sure makes getting up on a Tuesday morning that much more difficult. And to really put a Monday spin on it, I spilled coffee all down the front of my shirt at break. *sigh* The stupid cup was warped or something and the lid didn't fit properly. A fact I did not realize until AFTER my coffee took a detour from my mouth to decorate my shirt. I've treated it with a Shout wipe but it's still a light brown stain on a bright blue shirt. And I now smell like the a used coffee filter. Just freakin' great. I guess that's why there was extra cream cheese on my bagel...God was making up for the coffee incident in advance. Oy! But you know, I really did get up on the wrong side of the bed...once I finally got up. I got totally put out with Mama on the ...
