Back in Action

Action laced with pain killers, that is. Stripping is hard work. Stripping furniture, that is. I'd show you pics but I'm lame and didn't take any. When I "get in the zone" of a project, I tend to only slightly muse that "hm, I should take a pic to document" and then I keep working and the camera stays in its bag on the mudroom table. I'm still working on stripping/sanding the small wood chest of drawers. So far I've sanded three different Saturdays and stripped it one Saturday. Apparently I was supposed to, like, strip it first. See statement above about my lameness. *shrugs* Both sanding and stripping are hard work, though, especially when you're a) out of shape b) over thirty and c) don't know what you're doing. And so far I'm $36 into this project and about ready to just dump the thing in the trash and call it a day paint it and be done with it. Who knew deciding to re-stain it would be such a PITA? Probably a lot of people...

My Morning So Far And Chicken Little Asks a Question

Ugh. I'm at work today. But I don't expect sympathy because apparently everyone else's life sucks more than mine. According to the comments on the status update I left on FB yesterday, anyway. I made the mistake of mildly complaining about the fact that I have to work on a Saturday and the sympathy was just overwhelming. Or not so much, akshully. And don't you just hate that? When you're not really whining but not exactly happy about something and then everyone thinks it's just hillarious to tell you what a whiner you are for complaining because omigosh you're life could just be so much worse. You could have their lives!! :-O Yeah. Me neither. Sometimes it's all about the perspective, people. And it's not like I was looking for sympathy. You know, it was mostly complaining in fun, if that makes any sense. But anyway, boo on them. Get over yourselves already. Anyway, I got up early this morning to go grocery shopping, though not as early as I ...

Take that, bad week!

So, yesterday I got my a/c back AND the mess in the backyard is being worked on. Whatever test I was taking this week, I think I passed. I pray I did, anyway. And just so happens, I found this song...a new one by Faith Hill. It just feels like a fit after the rough week I had. Red Umbrella Sometimes life can get a little dark I'm sure I've got bruises on my heart Here come the black clouds full of pain Yeah, you can break away without the chains Your love is like a Red Umbrella Walk the streets like Cinderella Everyone can see it on my face So let it rain It's pourin' all around me Let it fall No it ain't gonna drown me After all I'm gonna be okay So let it rain You can wear your sorrow like an old raincoat You can save your tears in a bottle made of gold But the glitter on the sidewalk always shines Yeah, even God needs to cry sometimes Your love is like a red umbrella Always there to make me better When my broken dreams Are fallin' from the sky Let it rain...

The Ceiling's Falling! The Ceiling's Falling!

You know me and my Chicken Little history, right? Well this time, I think I'm not just making it up. LOL No, the sky isn't falling but the ceiling? Definitely maybe. Roofers have been working on our section of the library for the past couple of weeks and apparently they've employed a herd of elephants to work on it this morning. I kid ya'll not, it sounds like a rompin' stompin' good time is being had on the roof above me. And if the sound of ceiling dust sifting down is anything to go by, I might be gettin' a skylight above this here desk just any minute now. Few things scarier to a poor little southern girl's heart than a big boom overhead followed immediately by the sound of stuff falling from the ceiling. Not fun at all. In other rompin' stompin' good time news, we survived a stormy Saturday night. I was babysitting Alyssa when it hit. Their apartment has a skylight in the living room and ya'll...it's just too fun to watch lightenin...

Me and Chicken Little

"The sky if falling! The sky is falling!" This urgent message keeps crying in my mind each time I look at the news or hear what's going on in the world. Just call me Chicken Little, but I have this sort of doomsday feeling in my gut. With everything that's gone on this year with natural and man-made disasters I can't seem to help feeling this way. War, famine, terrorism and mass devastation tends to bring out the darker part of me. I look around in my immediate life and think, "Huh, things are actually going well right now. No family tragedies. No personal grief. All is well with the world." And then I turn on the television and I don't care how fast I flip through the channels I can't escape it. Hurricanes, war, soaring gas prices, death and destruction. Just this morning my CNN Breaking News alert popped up with the cruel message that 20 people had died when a bus carrying evacuees in Texas caught fire. And of course there are the masses of...
