Life Report

Image
Or maybe I shoulda called this post "life support?" Because my life is being held together by duct tape and cookies? Just back after a six day (48 hour) work week. Yes. Six full 8hr days in a row. I know in the "real" world, there's nothing exceptional about this. There are industries and such that work 60-80hr work weeks. But I am spoiled and I don't like this six day work week thing. Plus, I haven't been sleeping all that well lately for worrying about the stupid event that had me working that extra 8hrs so color me crabby right now. We restarted our annual Genealogy Fair this weekend and it was a booger. No, it turned out great, but the prep and junk for the thing? A booger. We're all walking around like zombies today, lest you think it's just me being held together with duct tape. I'm not sure if anyone else patched up their feelings with cookies yesterday, so I can't speak for what else is holding them together. But I used cookie...

Stream of Concious

I can't settle my brain down long enough to pick an actual topic to write on so I'll just do bullet point rambles. Cool? *So my mind got blown last night. I was so blown away by the big "A" reveal on Pretty Little Liars that I couldn't care less that Annie and Auggie (on Covert Affairs ) broke up an hour later. And I'm an Annie and Auggie fan. So you know the big "A" reveal was HUGE. But if you don't watch either of these shows, this tid-bit of information won't mean anything to you. But whao! I don't think my mind has been blown this badly in...EVER. I was less surprised to learn that Santa doesn't exist. *I'm really struggling to behave in a Christian manner today. Not because of who "A" is. But because of the whole sitch with my OWN A.  (Confused much?) ("A" is the super secret villain whose shocking reveal last night totally blew my mind on Pretty Little Liars. My A is my friend at work who has been te...

A Goodbye Steak

No, I'm not leaving you. Sorry to get your hopes up. The good-bye is for a colleague,  G, who is leaving us for a new job. He's been around for 5 years and, I must say, is one of the easiest librarians I've ever worked with. Very professional. Kind. Patient. Dedicated. We all really hate to see him go. :-( So to wish him well, we took him out to supper (or dinner, as the yankee's in the group call it). We had a group of about twelve. Four of my co-workers brought their spouses. I didn't bring mine, though. D'oh! That's right! I don't have one! A fact that worked in my favor last night. You see, the restaurant G chose is kind of a pricier one. I've only been there about three times prior as a result but the food is stellar. I'm actually happy he chose it. As soon as it was announced where we were going, I already knew I'd be getting the steak. Their steak is the BEST I've ever wrapped my lips around, no offense to Daddy who grills a ...

Ducks and Junk

Image
Sorry I've been so quiet this week. It's mostly because I've been busy but also because I've been lazy and uninspired. And also whiny. And nobody wants to read, THAT. haha I did have a few interesting dreams I wanted to report about. Sadly, I have forgotten them. I know one was about me being stuck in an elevator with toxic fumes--I held my sweater over my nose because of course that keeps toxic fumes from entering a body's lungs. Even in my dreams I'm not all that bright. The other one is just completely gone from my head though I'm fairly certain it probably had something to do with Duck Dynasty since I have become obsessed with it. Yes. Am am officially in love with some long bearded rich rednecks. I resisted it FOREVER, writing it off as stupid. And I didn't need to watch dumb rednecks because yeah. Rednecks are, like, my life. I mean, hello. This is on the front of Daddy's truck... This girl who often blathers on and on and on in...

Lifetime's Steel Magnolias: A Review

I admit, I was sort of dubious about watching it because, honestly, the original is like my absolute favorite movie of all time. I've watched it enough times that I can pretty much recite the dialog with the actors. I mean, I can literally picture the entire movie in my head from memory. And can recall the exact inflection of their TONES and facial expressions during the dialog of each scene. I'm not even ashamed to admit that I still cry with Sally Field during the funeral scene, ya'll.  So an "updated" version on Lifetime? Meh. Not terribly excited about it. But I was curious to see what they did with it. PLUS, I was intrigued by the fact that it had an all African-American cast with some of my favorite AA actresses. Queen Latifa as M'Lynn. Phylicia Rashad as Clariee. Alfre Woodard as Ouiser. Jill Scott as Truvy. The two younger actresses, I didn't recognize although Phylicia Rashad's daughter played Shelby. I got that from the website . Fi...

Weekend Review: The Lazy Girl Edition

Imagine that. Me. Lazy. Bet you'd have never guessed I could behave in such a manner. *snort* Whatevs. I took it really easy this weekend. After the busy-ness of last weekend followed by the body trauma (ugh) I was really wrung out by Saturday. Last week was just a total blah of blahness. After work Friday, Mama and I met up with Sis2 to deliver some maroon and white pom poms. Our little college town was having a harvest/halloween kiddie festival downtown and Lyssa was going as a cheerleader but she only had one pom. Nana to the rescue! And since our evening was already running late, we decided to stop at...wait for it...Sonic for supper. I went home with a big beefy, cheesy, bacon-y cheeseburger and made it with it like a starving girl. YUM. I know, I know. Whatever. I'm not sure what I did after that except for Haven on Syfy at 9pm. I can't miss my Nate , donchaknow. Saturday I slept in till *gasp* 6:45am when I finally dragged my tired butt outta bed and...

I Was Born a Ramblin' Girl

Image
No real point to today's post. It's a rambler. Enjoy! So. I'm thinking about writing a little editorial piece to put in the university's newspaper. A little ditty about MANNERS and HOSPITALITY. Seriously. Did no one teach half these kids about the common courtesy of checking behind you as you walk out of door to make sure no one's behind you and that if there IS someone behind you, you, I dunno, HOLD IT FOR THEM? Is that hard? Does not everyone in the world learn that little piece of 411 from infancy? Or is it just a few select old school southerners who cling to such a courtesy? You guessed it. I nearly got creamed by a door swinging shut while both my hands were full. I was leaving the coffee shop behind this student who breezed through the door ahead of me and let it swing shut behind him. Had I not thrust one of my ample hips out to catch it I'd be wearing my coffee right now. Even the person who was behind me was kind enough to rush up to catch the do...

Stuff of Nightmares

So. The fall season of new shows has already begun for some shows and since I have no life, this is a really happy occasion for me. So far I've tried out three new shows on NBC-- Go On, New Normal, and Revolution. The first two are both mediocre comedies I'll probably get by without ever watching again. They weren't bad, just not exceptional. I don't think I really laughed out loud during either of them. So I'd give them both a solid Meh. Revolution , unlike the other two, is NOT a comedy. It is a sort of disaster type drama about what happens when the world loses all sources of electricity and energy. Like, batteries don't even work. Nor do engines of planes, trains and automobiles. For serious. The world us plunged quite suddenly into the Dark Ages. haha This show is one of those brain twisters, much like Lost , so I'm willing to give it a chance. But ya'll...that stuff scared the CRAP outta me. Like...I had actual nightmares . It's like back ...

Hodge Podge

Image
I don't have an actual subject for this post. Just some odds and ends of what's what in my world these days. The kiddos have reached a few milestones lately and although they aren't MY kiddos, I'm still excited for them. I know I mentioned last week that Alyssa started 5-K this year. Well, Goofus emailed me a photo of her first day of school. All the schools in our area wear uniforms. For Lyssa's district, the colors are black, khaki, grey and gold/yellow.  I'm not sure how Lyssa feels about uniforms but ain't she cute in her little black jumper and white blouse? Her backpack is pink Hello Kitty. Though you'll hafta take my word on the Hello Kitty part. ;-) Also note the little hand she's holding. That's Efan-man who is, apparently, having some minor separation anxiety issues since his sister has started school. Sis2 said he cries when Lyssa gets out of the car and he can't go with her. Poor baby. But Lyssa, she says, seems to enjoy...

A Spinster's Weekend

So. The weekend. Well, Friday night I stayed in (shock) and mostly watched a marathon of The Client List on LMN. Don't ask me why I watch this show. I don't really know. J. Love's "Texas" accent is just awful and the storyline is kinda "blah." But her brother-in-law on there is smokin' hot so maybe that's why. I ditched the marathon about halfway through (I'd seen them already and the BIL isn't hot enough to warrant a second viewing for that long) in order to watch my recorded episode of Awake. I don't know why I like Awake either, except that it's one of those shows that you really  hafta think about in order to figure out what's going on. It reminds me a lot of Medium in that regard. Always a real headscratcher with a series long mystery of what's really going on with him...you know...Which is the dream and which is reality or is he really dead/in a coma/etc.? Who knows? But I want to find out. Mostly I want to p...

How I Spent My Weekend

Friday Night. I watched Bad Teacher on DVD Friday night. I'm not a huge Cameron Diaz fan but the trailer seemed to funny to pass up. I especially like when she gets hit in the face with the dodgeball. *snicker* My take? Not bad. It was really laugh out loud funny in places although some parts were bordering on ridiculous. And while there's nothing really all that redeemable about any of the characters (I don't think there was supposed to be) there is a little bit of "redemption" in the end to make it a happy ending. However, if your expecting Diaz's character to suddenly become "Good" teacher, you'll be disappointed. One thing I really wasn't all that crazy about in the film was the blatant drug use. Granted, I did watch the unrated version as opposed to the theatrical release. Not sure if the bulk of the nasty drug use was just in the unrated version or not. BUT, unlike a film or two that I quit watching because of it (I'm looki...

A TV Ho's Fall Review

Admittedly, my taste in television runs vastly different from what the masses seem to enjoy. Seems everyone I know talks about how amazing Modern Family is and how all the Real Housewives shows are their guilty pleasures. Me? I WANT to like Modern Family. Sofia Varga (isn't that her name?) is hilarious but the so-called comedy just kinda thuds at my feet. As for Real Housewives ...gag. All this is my way of saying, "I'm probably not the best person to go to for Fall premier reviews." Anyway, here's the rundown: Monday: Since Chuck is moving to Fridays, my Monday schedule is free to watch How I Met Your Mother. For YEARS I was certain I hated this show. Then Lifetime began showing the re-runs and I fell in love with it. I'm a little behind on what's what right now because I'm a Chuck ho and the past four seasons has been spent decidedly dedicated to Zachary Levi. This new freedom to watch HIMYM lends me to watching the new CBS comedy TWO BROKE...

A lil' bit dizzy

I went to visit a bloodsucker this morning. Also known as the lab nurse aka Nurse Bloodsucker. Ugh. She pricked my finger first. My right index finger. Does she not know that it is the most painful place to prick a finger? Mama always pricks her left middle finger to check her blood sugar. Not Nurse Bloodsucker! At least she gave me good news. My fasting blood sugar was 77 which is fan-friggin-tastic!! Being that the folks--both parents!--are diabetic, I really hafta watch out for that nasty piece of business. So far, so good though. Anyhoo, after she killed my finger, Nurse Bloodsucker then jabbed a needle into my arm and drained me. But at least this time she got a vein on the first try, didn't blow out the vein and barely left a mark. What she did leave was this intense wooziness that even a trip to McD's for breakfast hasn't cured yet.  I think. She took. Too much. *thud* After all this I have concluded that I could never date a vampire. I know the vampires of the w...

There was a weekend?

I missed it. I had to work a few hours on Saturday and combined with the long drive to and from, I hardly had any "off" time that day. When I did get home I got busy and did fun chore type things. You know. Laundry. Vacuuming. Dishes. Those kinds of chores. I even cleaned all McSucker's cups and filters. One of the filthier jobs of the day. I took a picture of all his guts laid out on my counter to dry because I know ya'll love that kind of crap. But I left my camera at home because I am lame. Also, I roasted a chicken . First one I've ever done so I'm kind of proud of myself. It was way super easier than I'd always imagined. Probably the hardest part was when I was rubbing the butter/brown sugar mixture on it and couldn't get the butter to stick in places.  I didn't get it in the oven until around 7 that night so unfortunately it wasn't done in time for supper. BUT...the DP and I had a nice little late night feast while I was carving i...

Oh noes!!

Tonight's girls' night out with the sisters and I forgot to set the timer to record Medium!! CRAP! Must remind myself that sisters are more important than television. Sisters are more important that television. Sisters are more important than television. Sisters are more important than television . Sisters are  more im .... Oh whomikiddin'? I want to see Medium tonight, dangit!

Weekend Review

Image
First of all MEDIUM WAS BACK FRIDAY NIGHT!!! And it was awesome as always. And also, Subway's buffalo chicken sub is...*swoony sigh* Amazing. I'd marry it if it weren't a sandwich. hehehe I stopped on my way home and picked up subs for the folks and myself. I don't usually pick up food on the way home but I had a craving, Subway had a special and I knew Mama and Daddy probably didn't feel like cooking. I had company Saturday morning. Looks like trouble to me! lol Mama's been having some trouble with her hip so she asked me to bring him home with me to wash his stinky butt give him a bath. You know, since she can't sit, stand, bend, walk or lay down comfortably. Poor thing. The DP went and stayed with Nana while Milo invaded came for his bath. Then after his bath he cried wanting to go home except I think what he actually wanted was to go outside to poop because when we went outside to get in the car he made a bee-line for the trees instead and fert...

Couch Potato News

So the new Fall Season of television started this week. ((CHUCK'S BACK!!)) I thought I'd give a few new shows a shot. All I can say is "Meh." Seriously, just Meh. The Event ~It follows Chuck Monday nights on NBC so it was a natural that I'd wanna try it. Plus, it has Jason Ritter and Blair Underwood who are...YUM. So I tried it and...Meh. Wasn't really bad just kinda bland and hard to follow. All that skipping around in time from present to four days ago to present to 11 weeks ago to present to--well, you get the idea. I honestly have no clue how it ended because I changed the channel halfway through to watch... Mike and Molly ~Which, I mostly enjoyed. I adore Melissa McCarthy who formerly portrayed Loreli Gilmore's best friend Sookie on Gilmore Girls . Molly is similar to Sookie in that she's cute and sweet and fun...except Molly knows that she's a big girl. Sookie was just Sookie and she happened to be a big girl. Nothing was ever said or e...

Anticipation

For the first time since early May I have a Saturday all to myself tomorrow! I hardly recall what those are like! Seems I vaguely recall being able to do my laundry and take my time cleaning my house. Or heck, lazing on the couch with the DP watching HGTV and Food Network. Summer is always such a busy time with birthdays, holidays, Emmy's visits, work, etc. And it isn't as though I haven't enjoyed the time with my family--I totally have. But, this hermit is ready to get back into some serious routines. And for at least this Saturday and next, I can do that. So I'm so looking forward to tomorrow. Beyond grocery shopping (which is always the one constant) I haven't made any plans. I need to do some serious deep cleaning around the house. Dog hair has begun taking over! I swear, it's getting so bad that every time I move around the house dog hair flutters every which way. Makes a good argument for shaving the Devil Pup, huh? hehehehe Yesterday was a little wor...
