Big Baby

I'm pouting. I hate sacrificing myself for the greater good. *sigh*

Coming In Last

It's a good thing I never played sports because it's become apparent to me that I'm destined to always come in last. Maybe it's my lack of ambition. Or maybe I have "doormat" stamped across my forehead. Or hell, maybe that's just my lot in life. Whatever the reason, I'd like to simply say, "ENOUGH ALREADY!" People have been telling me for years that I needed to ask for what I want. Be brave, they say. The problem with that, I'm learning, is that even asking I rarely ever get what I want. When I DO get what I want, it's not because I asked, necessarily, but because it's convenient for everyone ELSE involved. And that's fine. I'm all for everyone being satisfied. But, when it happens that everyone else gets what they want, regardless of its convenience to ME, that's where I have the problem. Since when am I a lesser being than everyone else? Why is it that everyone else's needs are more important than mine? And why t...

Weekend Blah

Friday night was nearly a total bust. None of my shows came on, instead replaced by *ack* gameshows. I think it must have been gameshow night on television. Ghost Whisperer , albeit re-runs, was replaced by The Price Is Right (I think. It had Drew Carey on it and I just assumed as I screeched in indignation that it must have been The Price Is Right. ) Las Vegas was replaced by...something gameshowy. I don't know what it was. Maybe Deal or No Deal ? I can't remember. Either way, it was not good and did not make for a happy Jana. Fortunately, I'd received a shipment of books the day before so I was happy to curl up and read Susan Mallery's latest HQN, Accidentally Yours. Great book. I just got frustrated because the Devil Pup does NOT like for me to read. Meaning: I kept having to put the book down periodically to fend her off, show affection, toss her toys, etc. Mommy was SO not feelin' THAT. lol After I put her to bed, though, I got to finish it in peace. I thin...

Prayers, Please?

I know I keep asking ya'll for prayers but can I add one more??? My BIL (Goofus) has an interview for a job closer to us that would be just perfect for him. Both he and Sis2 are looking for jobs closer to here because they seriously want to get out of the messed up backwards region of Mississippi they currently live in. I want them to move closer to here because I'm selfish like that. I want my sister back! And I want to have the same kind of relationship with Lyssa that I have with Emmy. So please, please pray that the interview goes well, he's impressed with the company and they're impressed with him and that he LANDS THE JOB! :) His interview isn't till Tuesday so if we start a prayer chain now, that would be GREAT.

Not Much To Tell

Things have been blessedly quiet around her the past few days. Work has been okay, no new family drama--all is well so far. I'm not even going to complain about it being boring! hehehe Alyssa has been a little sick this week. She ran a 102 fever last night but Sis2 managed to get it down to 99 something and it stayed down. She was taking her to the doctor this morning but I haven't heard how it went. I did get some pretty good news. Daddy's supervisor told him that his particular job will last until at least August. So it isn't GREAT news, but it's better news than May! It's been rainy and yucky here today. Dark and overcast. A great day to have slept in and then curled up on the couch with a good book. Except, I probably wouldn't have gotten much reading done, what with the DP in my face all day. LOL She's gotten into this habit of wanting me to lay on the couch so that she can sleep on top of me. Her big fluffy bed that she got for Christmas isn't ...

Finally got the photos back from my grandparent's fiftieth wedding anniversary. Thought I'd share some. My grandparents, Pa-Paw Joe and Granny. Jana, Sis1, two cousins and Sis2 with Granny and Paw-Paw. Our youngest cousin was unable to attend. He lives three hours south and couldn't get off of work for the weekend. :( There are other photos with the spouses and great-grands but they're rather scary looking so I'm not including them. hehehehe A family portrait. For once we were all together! And not altogether unphotogenic. Although, Daddy and Alyssa really could have smiled a bit, doncha think? lol This is me and my great aunt, Grace, performing my grandparents' song, True Love. I'd never heard of the song prior to learning it for this party. But it's a sweet oldie from a movie I can't recall the name of. Think it had Grace Kelly in it, though. Goes a little something like this: I give to you, and you give to me, true love. True love So on and...

When It Rains, It Pours

We had a great, well, mostly great weekend. Sis1 got really irritable before they went home Saturday afternoon and Emmy got upset and cried because she wasn't ready to go home. They made a short trip this time because yesterday was supposed to be really nasty weather. Turned out to be a beautiful day. They came in Friday evening and stayed with the folks. Sis1 was supposed to stay with me, but they got in too late. Which is fine with me. I wasn't really in a "girls night out" mood anyway. I didn't go out there either, because I wasn't in a very family friendly mood, either. lol So I stayed home and washed laundry and watched televison. (Las Vegas rocked!!) I got up early Saturday morning to go grocery shopping because Mama had said that everyone would be meeting at my house Saturday to go shopping, eat lunch, etc. Sis2, Goofus and Lyssa were meeting us there, too. So, I got up at SIX AM to go grocery shopping and be back home in time. After I got home, Mama ca...

And The Hits Keep Coming

First of all, a little bit of advice. When you're celebrating YOU for Valentines Day a) Buy the Good chocolates. Forget Whitmans. Go for Godiva. b) Don't watch a romantic comedy DVD--you'll only depress yourself and c) actually follow through on all your plans, otherwise you'll just be disappointed. (I opted not to get a good "not cooked by me" supper and ate a hotdog and pork rinds instead. Yes, I was sorely disappointed.) So, yeah. VDay still sucked monkey butt no matter how hard I tried. But the point is that I tried. Insead of moping and "woe is me"ing, I tried to make myself forget that I'm single on a day when being single sucks. But you know, there are worse things than being single on Valentine's Day. Found out yesterday that on of my uncles' wife has breast cancer--in both breasts. She's going to have to have a double mastectomy on the 29th. Not a pleasant time at all--made worse by the fact that my uncle got laid off from hi...

Happy Chocolate Day!

Oh, you say this isn't a holiday about chocolate? It's about lurrrvvv ? Bah! How 'bout a holiday celebrating the love of chocolate??? hehehehe Single or shackled, have a great Valentine's Day, folks. I fully intend to. No moping from THIS single gal. Not this year. I will not bemoan the lack of flowers decorating my desk. Flowers just die anyway, right?

Dating Drama

Oy, I just got asked out. I was just whining to my friend, Kaitlin this morning that I hadn't been on a date since, well, it's been a while. LOL So I'm sitting here at the reference desk minding my own business. This poor kid is in here doing research and asks for a copy. So the student worker who's out here with me goes to make the copy and the dude kinda shuffles up the desk and mumbles something. I tell him I can't understand him and he mumbles, "I was just wondering if you'd want to go to a movie sometime." I just about died. *sigh* He seemed nice but I don't know him from Adam, he's probably far too young and I can never understand what he says (he's been in here before--and understanding a person when they speek is probably pretty important when dating them, right?) so I told him I'm not really available. (Not a complete lie. I'm not available to HIM.) I felt so bad. And then it was so awkward because he had to finish his rese...

Monday Blues

Oh, to be at home. I played hooky Friday. Bliss. Well, after I made the trip into town to finally get the oil changed and the inspection sticker for my car--and grocery shopping. Oh, and after I got back from getting Libby's nails clipped. THEN it was bliss. My butt parked on the couch, remote in hand and a devilish pup sprawled across my feet. A blissful afternoon if there ever was one. Yeah, I finally did some of the things I'd been putting off doing. Turns out (much to my delight) that the place I regularly take my car for an oil change also does state inspections! Yay! So I didn't have to go to that other place with the wierd/creepy guy who leered at me that last time. lol The guys at Express Oil are always super friendly and non-creepy. Yay! Grocery shopping was fun. I gave Mr. Mastercard a minor workout. He was feeling neglected cause I had been keeping him tucked away for nearly two months! Eeep! But it was a very minor workout. I got some Valentine's stuff fo...

Observation

I'm not a terribly observant person most of the time. However, even I noticed the pair of abandoned socks on the elevator floor just now. So tell me this--How does one lose ones socks in an elevator at a library? Hmmm?

Forgetful Me

I walked out of the house today without: my wallet. my cellphone. the mail i'd intended to send. taking the garbage out. (it's pick-up day) Oy! It's only Wednesday??

Goodnight, Gloom. Goodnight, Doom.

You know, I've noticed that this blog has become somewhat of a drag. All gloom and doom. Makes my head hurt. A friend reminded me this morning that I used to be funny. Dang, where'd that stoopid funny bone go, anyhow? *sigh* I do have a lot of fun, still. My life isn't all sickness, gloom and depression. The dark stuff just seems to press a little harder for attention, yanno? So here's some non-depressing type stuff to ponder over. Lyssa is now drinking juice from a sippy cup and sitting in a high chair to eat "solid" food. When did this happen?? She's not supposed to be growing up so fast!! It seems like just last week that it was Emmy who drank from a sippy cup and smeared nasty green beans all over her high chair. Now Emmy's like a pre-preteen mooning over the kid who plays Troy in High School Musical. Kids grow up far to fast, if you ask me. That, and the older they get, the older I get. lol After bathing Libby Saturday and waking up Sunday feelin...

I had...

A really funny, snarky and somewhat boring post all typed up earlier and stupid blogger ATE IT. I regalled ya'll with a witty story about my bathing the Devil Pup (she was good, I hurt like a sonovabisuit!), bragged about how hard I worked on cleaning the house and junk. I mean, I was charming and witty. And it's gone. *sigh* Needless to say, I'm no longer feeling witty. Soggy, yes. Witty, not so much. (It's rained enough that I had to wade through the yard this morning. And the humidity is terrible.) But, on to better subjects... Paw-Paw H went home Friday night and seems to be recovering well from his stroke. His speech is steadily improving so that's wonderful news. If you've ever been lead by the Lord to do something and didn't do it, you're missing out on a blessing. I got proof today that when you do His will, He does bless you for it. I won't go into detail because it's all a little personal but He did bless me for a sacrifice I recently m...

More Updates

Just thought ya'll might be wondering... Pa-Paw H (the one who had a stroke) is feeling some better. His speech is improving and I think they're going to send him home today or tomorrow. He'll be working with a physical therapist for a while and possibly a speech therapist if we can talk him into it. He seems to be feeling some better as well. So that's good news. My great-grandmother, while not improving, was talking a little bit Wednesday afternoon. Mostly just asking for more pain medication but any kind of response is an improvment over the unresponsiveness of late. Granny and my great-aunt don't really hold much hope of a recovery, though. Mostly, they're just keeping her on pain medication to keep her comfortable, though she will be moved back to the nursing home soon. The doctors at the hospital don't feel there is much more they can do for her. So that's what's up with that. I'm REALLY thankful that both grandfathers seem to be doing and ...
