The Quiz I Stole

Totally stole this from Jana's (no the other Jana hehe) blog. 1) Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says. Dang! Aren't any books near me. I'm at work and all the books are clear across the room. This coulda been fun. *pout* 2) Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first? Desk 3) What is the last thing you watched on TV? How to Boil Water on the Food Network 4) WITHOUT LOOKING, guess what the time is. 12:40 5) Now look at the clock, what is the actual time? 12:42. Shoot. I was wishful thinking, I guess. lol 46) With the exception of the computer, what can you hear? Two patrons whispering. 7) When did you last step outside? What were you doing? Two and a half hours ago when I came into work. 8) Before you came to this website, what did you look at? Jana's website. (Seriously. I'm not talking about myself in third person. I SWEAR. hehe) 9) What are you wearing? green and yellow striped shirt an...

Pass the Guaze and the Slimfast, Please

Alrighty, folks. I'm outta here, and all too soon, one of my teeth will be as well. That's right folks. It's time to face the oral surgeon and have this unruly tooth cut out. No, I'm not looking forward to it but am hoping that in due time, ridding myself of this blasted tooth will also rid me of it's irritation. So ya'll eat a nice juicy steak this weekend and think of me slurping down Slimfast and mashed potatoes. :-(

A Personal Peeve

Okay, I'm all for technology. The invention of the cell phone has saved my butt on more than one occassion. But honest to goodness, I hardly think the inventors intended it to be carried EVERYWHERE! No offence to anyone who does this (well, maybe a little offence because it truly bugs me) but answering and talking on cell phones in public restrooms just ain't right. You know, I don't care if you don't mind talking to someone on the phone while YOU do YOUR buisness, but I DO care if you're talking on the phone while I'm doing MINE. Grrrr... And honest to goodness, ain't nuthin' that important that it can't wait till after you flush, wash and leave the restroom. Simply note who the call is from and call them back when you're done. Simple as that. I mean, cell phones are annoying enough in the theater or restaurants, but in the restroom??? Come on, people. Have a little decency and respect for yourself, the person on the other end of the line and mo...

Seeing Beyond the Mold

This was an email forwarded to me from one of my aunts. I found it really special and worth passing on. Enjoy! A man was exploring caves by the seashore. In one of the caves he found a canvas bag with a bunch of hardened clay balls. It was like someone had rolled clay balls and left them out in the sun to bake. They didn't look like much, but they intrigued the man, so he took the bag out of the cave with him. As he strolled along the beach, he would throw the clay balls one at a time out into the ocean as far as he could. He thought little about it, until he dropped one of the clay balls and it cracked open on a rock. Inside was a beautiful, precious stone! Excited, the man started breaking open the remaining clay balls. Each contained a similar treasure. He found thousands of dollars worth of jewels in the 20 or so clay balls he had left. Then it struck him. He had been on the beach a long time. He had thrown maybe 50 or 60 of the clay balls with their hidden treasure into ...

Sisters and stuff

So Sis2 and her dh, whom I've decided to begin referring to as Goofus (not in a derogatory way. A semi-affectionate pet name that can change tones at any given time), came to town this weekend. For an actual weekend stay. A first, I might add, for these two who are mostly still newlyweds. We all had it on good authority to never expect this particular sort of visit as Goofus is unhealthily attached to the idea of sleeping in his own bed. Alas, marriage and all it's benefits must have swayed him because TA DA! There they were, parked at my folk's house from Friday night till late Sunday afternoon. Amazing what marital benefits can produce, eh? I think, in some small way, Sis2 wanted me to come out Friday night, too, but I realized after a little thinking about it that um, no. That probably wouldn't be the ideal solution for me. I love my sister. I love my parents. And I lo--well, if not love, then tolerably like Goofus. However, an entire weekend in a cramped little hous...

Wikipedia Exercise

I got this from Heather's blog who got it from another friend's blog. Go to Wikipedia . In the search box, type your birth month and day (but not year). List three events that happened on your birthday. List two important birthdays and one interesting death. Post to your blog. Three Events 1775 - American Revolutionary War : Patrick Henry delivers his famous speech -" give me liberty or give me death " at St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia . 1839 - First recorded use of " OK " as an abbreviation for "oll korrect" in the Boston Morning Post . 1989 - A 1,000-foot diameter Near-Earth asteroid misses the Earth by 400,000 miles. Two important births 1905 - Lale Andersen , German singer and cabaretist (d. 1972 ) 1965 - Richard Grieco , American actor and singer One interesting death 1742 - Jean-Baptiste Dubos , French writer (b. 1670 )

Happy Obsessions

So I was watching Desperate Housewives Sunday night and one of the sub-plots was Lynnett's son, Parker's, obsessions. You know, how he goes from being obsessed with one subject to another. Like baseball, trains, vaginas, etc. He becomes completely consumed with knowing and doing everything to do with that subject. As I watched it, I realized that I'm a lot like Parker. (Though I must admit. I've never been obsessed with vaginas. lol) I have an obsessive behavior. Mostly with books. Sometimes other forms of entertainment. Anyone remember Keith Urban? hehehe (Yeah, I still love him but ever since he came out with Nicole Kidman it kinda killed the obsession, ya know?) I'm sure ya'll have noticed my obsessive behavior, too, beyond Keith Urban. My relentless pursuit of Jen Weiner's latest book/film/etc. My relentless pursuit of Don't Look Down. And if you read my eHarlequin book blog, you'd know all about my new obsession with the Torie O'Shea mysteri...

Everywhere That Mary Went by Lisa Scottoline: A Book Review

This book was sent to me by my dear friend, Heather, as part of April's Buy a Friend a Book Week. She and I had been discussing what authors we were reading these days and one of her favorites is Lisa Scottoline. When I mentioned that I hadn't read any of Ms. Scottoline's books, Heather kindly picked me to buy a book for. So thanks Heather for introducing me to another fabulous author. I sincerily enjoyed Everywhere That Mary Went. It's been a long while since I'd read any legal thrillers. John Grisham burnout and all that. lol But Ms. Scottoline's take on the legal thriller is much more my speed. It's part legal thriller, part mystery, part romance and part chick lit, if that makes any sense. lol Even though this book was written far before chick lit's time, to me, it just had a certian chick lit flare to it.But it also had the perfect balance of all these elements so it was all good. Mary, a young widow, is an attorney up for partnership in the firm s...

Dreaming

Ev er read a book and then dreamed about the characters? That's what my night was like. I started reading another Torie O'Shea mystery (by Rett MacPherson, btw) last night while I was waiting for Medium to come on TV. I absolutely love the characters in the Torie O'Shea mysteries but there's one character, in particular, that I just can't get enough of. The sheriff, Colin Brook. I don't know what exactly it is that I love about him except everything. lol He's just the ideal, I guess. Strong of character as well as the physical. Handsome. Tough but laid back. Competent. A real manly man. And it doesn't hurt that he's totally in love with Torie's mother, Jalena who just happens to be nearly ten years older than him and permanently in a wheel chair due to Polio that she contracted as a child. I guess there's just something sexy about a man who sees beyond the physical to the heart of a person. So anyway, I dreamed about Colin Brook except he was...

A Dog of a Weekend

About the only time I was truly happy all weekend was when I had a dog in my lap. Or at my feet or pressed against my thigh. And believe you me, I had plenty o' dogs 'round me this weekend. My clothes bare the dog hair to prove it, too. lol But seriously. The weekend was a definite mixture of a desperate need to sob and some sort of sad indifference that passed for me being happy. You know that whole 2006 sucking thing I've mentioned before? Well, the suckage continues. Friday was just one of those sort of indifferent days. Not terribly good but not inherently bad, either. Just sort of "there", if you will. I was restless and bored and just generally a mass of blah. Nothing seemed to make me feel good. Couldn't sit still long enough to read. TV sucked. I swear, I got so bored that honest to goodness, I actually got up and scrubbed my bathroom down, that's how restless I was. I bleached the tub and toilet. Scrubbed the sink. I even washed my shampoo bottles...

Happy Easter, Ya'll

Ya'll, have a safe and happy Easter. Hunt lots of eggs, eat plenty of chocolate and don't be shootin' not wabbits! It might be the Easter Bunny! But seriously. Ya'll all be safe and happy. I'll be back Monday with surefire tales of a weekend gone mad, I'm sure. hehehe

Blah

That's all I can say. Wish I had something snarky. Okay, so I might still have some snark left in me, but "blah" pretty much sums up the whole dang week . Thankfully, the whole dang week is just about over. Workwise, anyway. Friday's a free day. Whoo Hoo! So yesterday, I got called into the boss' office and no, I didn't get chewed out but I did get corrected on an issue or two. But mostly got to bare the brunt of some other issues which I can't get into on a public forum. I'm always available to listen and try and help people so I'm not complaining about it. Much. It's just lately, everything's just become so personal to me and it just really threw off my groove. Too bad I'm not the Emperor. We all know what happens when you throw off his groove. Or you would if you watched the movie. hehe But me making everything personal is my issue and no one else's so I guess I really shouldn't toss people off the roof of the palace, righ...

Don't Look Down: A Book Review

Yeah, yeah, so ya'll are probably sick to death of hearing me talking about this book. But guess what. I finally read it, so there! :-p~~ hehe As I mentioned before, I wasn't certain that this sort of story, a romantic adventure, would really click with me because I'm wired weird when it comes to the mixing of genres. However, I was really intrigued by the collaboration between Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer and not entirely because of their blog . Sure, I am fascinated by the blog because they are fun and interesting people, but moreso than that, I found the idea of them each writing separate POV's (she the female and he the male) intriguing. I don't think I have ever read a book written that way. My curiosity was definitely piqued. They, however, pulled it off flawlessly. The transition from POV to POV was seamless. The characters remained true to themselves and never varied. Had I not already known the "truth behind the writing" I'd have never known ...

Weird Triumphs

Okay, so yeah. I'm happy about a weird thing or two. The most beautimus thing is... I GOT A NEW SEPTIC TANK!!! ROFLOL So who knew that a girl could get excited over something designed to take crap? hehehe (hey, wonder can I get one of them for my LIFE? lol) But yeah. For those of you who've not heard me complaining, I've dealt with a faulty pain in the butt septic system for the entire FIVE YEARS that I've lived in my current house. Granted, Roto Rooter has some rather nice looking fellas workin' for 'em, but they're rather smelly dudes so I'm thankful to at last be free of them. lol I must admit, when my landlord told me Thursday that he'd be out Saturday to "take care of it permanently" I had my doubts. There are, after all, a couple of things he's promised me that he's never followed through on. But sure enough, he showed up bright and early Saturday morning (around 9ish) with his "crew" (which turned out to be just one...

Boobs

I'm either going to have to stop wearing this shirt or get used to my boobs getting a lot of conversation. *rolls eyes* And it's my favorite shirt, too, dag-gummit! But every dang time I wear it I can't get a guy to make eye contact with me for all the coffee in Starbucks. And it isn't even a slutty top. It's a respectable blouse, I swear. Maybe a little on the low side but seriously, it isn't like my boobs are all that spectacular anyhow. Just run of the mill B cups. *sigh* hehehehehe

Welcome Back Miss Independence!!

Oh holy wow! I can drive again!!!! Yeeeeee-Haaaawww! lol So yeah. I've got my driving leg back. Drove myself to work this morning and everything. Yay me! hehe So I thought I was going to be off today because I had to take care of some issues at the house with the roto rooter man...AGAIN. Yeah. So I called my landlord and he says if I can hang till Saturday he'll bring a crew out and fix it permanently. I have my doubts about the permanency of it but I'm crossing my fingers and winging a prayer to God that I'm wrong. For once I want to be wrong. lol That left me at home with no reason (other than laziness) to be there. Somehow I didn't think that excuse would fly with my supervisor and I really would like to save my personal leave time for some time when I don't have to time flushes, ya know? (tmi?) But then, of course, I'm also at home with no ride as my mother had gone on into work. She did say she'd come back and get me if I wanted her to but I don...

Don't Look Down and Don't Look at Wal-Mart

Ugh! So I have this gift card to Wal-Mart, right? It was a birthday present. So I go to Wal-Mart last night because yesterday was the release date for Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer's new baby, Don't Look Down . You know, since I've been obsessively reading the blog and stuff, I feel sort of emotionally invested in it. I'm just dying to read it. But does Wal-Mart have it anywhere? Noooooooo. They have Danielle Friggen Steal out the butt but no Crusie/Mayer. No Moots. No nothin'. Okay, so they had the new Carol Higgens Clark which I almost bought but I digress. No Don't Look Down. I was so disappointed that I actually DREAMED about it last night. How sad am I that my only dreams are about me running around town trying to find a book and then not being able to buy it cuz my only expendable money is stuck on a gift card to Wal-Mart? *sigh* To add to the nightmares, I watched American Idol and dude. They pretty much BUTCHERED my beloved country music. BUTCHERED, I te...

Rich White Trash

Okay, color me un-PC but ya'll...have ya'll happened to catch the embarrassment to the country music industry that is Tuckerville ? Oh. My. Gosh. Just in case you don't know what I'm talking about, this is a little "reality" show on TLC that follows the life of country music "legend" Tanya Tucker. Let's just say that I sincerely hope that much of this show is staged for drama because if it isn't? Oh. My. Gosh. I admit to a little indulgence into the land of reality TV on occasion. Especially when bored. Which I was Saturday. And TLC was running a Tuckerville marathon to hype up the new season of it. (Yes. There will be a new season of this train wreck.) I had actually seen a couple of episodes a few months ago that just had me shaking my head. Having watched several more episodes this weekend, I've officially gone from shaking my head to wanting to bang my head against a wall. Cuz ya'll? It ain't nuthin' but some rich white t...

Getting Over It

Thanks for letting me vent and whine Friday. I probably shouldn't have but my head was about to explode so... ;-) I'm feeling a little better about it now. Trying to, anyway. I didn't do any of the home excercises this weekend out of rebellion. hehehehe I know. Not very mature and probably spiting myself but I never claimed to be very mature. ;-) Anyhow, I'm a little worn out from the weekend. Mama and I went shopping Saturday and she wore me out. I think she forgets that a) I'm not much of a shopper on a good day and b) I really was starting to hurt after being on my leg all day. By the time we got through with looking at all the stores she wanted to go to and got to Wal-Mart for groceries, I was about ready to sit in the floor and cry, it hurt so bad. If I thought I could get myself back up, I probably would have. But I did buy a new outfit...the pants a couple sizes smaller than usual. Yay me! Or yay the person who mis-sized the pants. lol Whichever. One good t...
