Mississippi Blizzard

So I don't know if ya'll know it or not but us southern Bible Belters got hit by Snowmageddon last week. Like, NINE whole inches of snow. Laugh, northern friends. Laugh till your bellies ache and tears stream down your cheeks. But. I am here to tell you a little true story. You ready for it? Once upon a time, the southeastern region of the United States of America does not ever get that much snow. The End. I've never seen nine inches of snow. Ever. Never, ever in my whole entire 36 years (I'm rounding up) of life have I ever seen nine inches of snow. And really, nine is the estimate because everyone I know  in my county stopped measuring after seven and it snowed a few more hours after that. Big, fat, fluffy white snowflakes. And four inches of that nine piled up within the first HOUR. So. Yes. I stopped measuring at 3 inches because of laziness. Trees snapped in half from the weight. YES! Even the trees are ill equipped for that much snow! Thurs...

Lizard!!

This little green booger was crawling all over my pollen infested car the other day. So long as he stays ON my car and doesn't get IN my car , I'm cool with him.

Spring Done Sprung

Image
Though the calendar would have one believe that spring didn't arrive until today, I think Mother Nature had a few laughs about that . Spring sprung here a couple of weeks ago. Actually, it started in February with the blooming of daffodils, Japanese Magnolias and a few other plants. But now? Everything is in full bloom. The trees are all lush and green again. And I don't even wanna talk about the grass. I'll let Libby do that. Anybody wanna come mow? My lawn guy is too busy playing delivery guy and drink coffee with his mama guy to fire up the mower on my shaggy disaster of a yard. With what I pay him... Oh wait. That's right. He does it for free! Except when he does it for cookies. Guess I'll be waiting on his terms, then. At least Libby doesn't seem to mind!

Livin' For the Weekend

Image
Today has been crazy busy, as in, I think I've been up and running for 6 hours straight. Even when I was sitting, I was up and running. Periodicals and map retrievals wait for no man--or chubby girl. Anyway, now that I've got a few secs to sit and play, here's the rest of the "yard" tour photos and some completely "should be embarrassed because I'm so silly" photos. A tour of my Saturday morning, if you will. Contain your joy. You're embarrassing me. You probably have no idea what you're looking at, but trust me, those are azaleas. Two of the five I planted back in the spring. They haven't grown much--or at all--but at least these two are still alive. The same can not be said for this poor thing.  It's one of the pair that I set out a few feet away from the two above it. It looked fine when I planted it but a week or two later, the leaves started turning brown and by the middle of the summer, it was dead as  a doornail....

Shrooms

Image
So, Saturday morning after I got back from town and finished breakfast (yes, I'm still indulging in Sonic breakfasts) I took the DP out for her "poop walk". While we were making tracks all over the yard, I noticed a strange new "breed" of mushrooms littering my yard. Actually, they're "clumping" all over my yard. I know ya'll probably don't care about mushrooms or my yard but I thought they were interesting. And since it's my blog I decided to take pictures to share with you! No, no. Don't thank me. They clump against tree stumps... They clump in bouquets... Small clumps... Black clumps... Heck, they even clump in formation! See the triangle?? Then there was this one lone green-ish one all on it's lonesome. Sad. That's it for the 'Shrooms but I'll be back tomorrow with more yard finds! Please. Contain your excitement. ;-)

Foxy

Image
I totally have a fox living behind me. And not of the manly man fox type, either. Unfortunately. *pout* No, I have an ACTUAL fox who apparently has a nest somewhere in the woods behind my house. I've seen him/her at various times the past couple of years always heading the same direction. Usually I'm outside with Libs when I see him/her and Libs usually has NO CLUE it's even there. The fox is totally sly in that it will sit all statue like and study us as though WE'RE the interesting creatures. Which, I guess we kinda are. To a fox, anyway. I know I'm a rather odd specimen to study. And Libs with her obliviousness probably seems completely odd to him/her, too. OR, the fox is a male and thinks Libs, with her fluffy butt, is a smokin' hot babe. ;-) Anyway, I hadn't seen the fox since last summer so I was beginning to think he/she had moved or died or something. (Do foxes nest in the same place for long periods of time??? I need to google this!) Then yeste...

Last Petunia Standing

Image
So at the end of summer/beginning of fall last year when all my florals had croaked, I cleaned my containers and pots to put them away for the winter. Because I am lazy I just dumped all the potting soil and the dead floral remains into the area between the pavered walkway and the front porch. It's an area I desperately need to landscape with some dirt and rock or something. (No flowers because I don't have gutters and the rain runoff wouldn't be conducive.) Well, one day last week when Mama dropped me off after work, she glanced over and said, "You've got a Petunia growing!" I looked at her like she was nuts and dubiously asked, "Where?" So we got out of the car and she walked over to the walkway and there amidst all the weeds I still needed to cut was a little spot of pink. Can't see it? Me either. Too many weeds. There it is. Hiding amongst all those hateful weeds that had taken over. Just barely visible. Looks like another bloom is f...

Not for Sissies

What's not for sissies? Yard work. Which definitely means it's not for me. But what did I do this weekend? I painted my nails. What'd you think? Nah, I did actually do some  yard work. *shudder* It was supposed to storm all day Saturday so I put off priming my walls. It may be an old wives' tale but I've heard it said that you shouldn't paint when it's raining. Something about the humidity? So since it was supposed to storm all day Saturday I didn't prep the walls Friday night. (wash them down and tape the trim, in case you're wondering.) Saturday ended up being a gloriously amazing day. Sunshine, nice breeze and warm temps. Just glorious. But since I didn't have my walls prepped and I was slightly paranoid about the odds of it suddenly bursting into rain I still decided against priming the paneling. So instead I...dun dun dun... yard work. *shudder* I started out just picking up a stick here and stick there while I was outside with ...

Spring Done Sprung

Libby is a difficult supermodel to work with. She refuses to look at the camera, for one. For another, she said I don't pay her enough to take direction while sitting in weeds almost as tall as she is. Can't say that I blame her. I don't like sitting in the weeds either. But the weather sure is nice. Guess I'm gonna hafta get the weedeater out. And maybe make Daddy some jalepeno poppers to sweet talk into unleashing the lawn tractor on all that green stuff.

Paths

Image
I live smack in the middle of hunting land extravaganza! From the time I was a little girl we could always tell when some hunting season or another was upon us by the sheer number of trucks parked on the side of the road. (Well, that AND the fact that Daddy's an avid hunter, too.) Not just my road, but ALL the roads from there to town. Hunters park on the side of the road to enter their hunting land through paths. Like this one. See? It's really just a little worn out spot through the woods. And then this one... Looks a lot like the first one, huh? These little trails leading into the woods are all up and down my road. Many of them belonging to different  hunters or hunt clubs. I'd love to explore those paths and see what lies beyond them. But that would be, you know, tresspassing. Maybe one of these years I'll get the courage up to ask Daddy to take me walking along the paths he uses. Although, you'd be hard pressed to find his truck on the side of the...
