Blowin' this Popstand

See ya'll next year!

Rain and Paint Fumes

I don't know whether to be depressed or high. LOL They're painting in the library this week. Right outside the department back door and most of second floor. First they were mudding the repaired drywall and now they're painting. And the fumes, they are a'rockin'. lol Meanwhile, outside it's still cold. Still raining. Still utterly depressing, muddy and all around yucky. My feet sink into the ground and make this awkward sucking sound each time I take the DP out to do her business. The ditches look more like creeks and the popcorn on my popcorn ceiling at home is starting to crumble off in soggy chunks. *sigh* Tomorrow is forecast for a slight reprieve before another bout of rain sets in for the weekend and most of next week. Looks like North East Mississippi is in for a WET Christmas. And not wet in any sense of anything fun. (in case all you gutter dwellers were wondering. hehehe)

With Pictures

This was actually taken when I babysat Tues. afternoon, but it's basically the same scene. Just a different outfit. LOL The little stinker would take my Tide pen and pretend to write in my book. Kept wanting to know why I wouldn't take the cap off of it. *shakes head* Something tells me she and I are going to have to have some serious talking when she gets old enough to understand how upset Aunt Jana would be were she to write in one of Aunt Jana's beloved romance novels. hehehe I joked with Goofus that what should get Lyssa for Christmas is a big back filled with junk. It seriously keeps her occupied for hours. Friday night I eventually had to put my bag on the table to get her to settle down and possibly go to sleep. Something about purses and bags just fascinates her. And of course we made a game out of her wearing her toboggan. We're trying to get her used to wearing one since it's been so cold (of and on). The stinker won't hardly keep one on her head. So I...

Weekend Review

So I've kinda lapsed on the WR's in past weeks. Ya'll probably don't care much because honestly, it's not like anything I do is all that interesting anyway. lol But because it's good for ME to remind myself that I don't just sit on my butt all weekend, here's an attempt to get back to what used to be a great way for me to start my Mondays. So Friday Sis2 called me at work and asked me to babysit. I'm pretty sure that one of the biggest reasons they moved back here was for the free babysitting but you know I don't care. lol Alyssa and I spent a happy four hours together. She's such a joy. She emptied my purse out two or three times (one of her favorite activities). I have this giant purse that's normally full to capacity with junk. And she loves exploring all that junk. hehehe Then we ate supper (she ate all of her green beans, most of her taters and some of her apples but got distracted when she saw me eating vanilla wafers--of course she...

Libby sez "Cheeze!"

Image
I think she's workin' towards convincing Santa that she's been a good girl this year. She forgets that he sees her when she's sleeping and awake. He KNOWS if she's been bad or good, which, let's face it...even if she HAS been bad on occasion, with a smile like that, who wouldn't give the girl anything she asked for? hehehehe But hey, since she's so cute, I figured she deserved her own Christmas song. To the tune of "Santa Clause Is Comin' To Town" I present you with... "Libby Tater's Comin' To Town" (FYI: Her nickname at home is Baby Tater) Oh, you better not read, you better not sleep, you better not eat, I'm tellin' you why, Libby Tater's comin' to town. She sees you when you're eatin, She knows when you're asleep, She knows if taste bad or good so taste good for goodness sake. Oh, you better not read, you better not sleep, you better not eat I'm tellin' you why, Libby Tater's comin...

Cheerfulness...

I has none. lol It's a cold, rainy, windy, soggy mess around here. *sigh* (And I'll take that cheese now, Trix, just any old time you're ready to serve it. hehehe) Seriously depressing with all the rain we've had though. We were hoping for snow but go rain instead. Folks SOUTH of us got the snow. No freakin' fair. I could totally use a snow day. In unrelated news: Even though I'm 29, Mama can still embarrass me in front of my friends. lol The muse hasn't been super helpful lately, either. She even makes snide remarks about some of the books I've read lately. Made gagging noises at one book. Though I hafta agree with her on that one. It was particularly sappy. Hero with no spine + whiny heroine=gag reflex. Pardon me if I would rather read some tough alphas with kick ass heroines. Christmas cookies are like crack. *sigh* Lady at church gave out huge tins of them (cookies, not crack) as gifts and it's all I can do not to clean the dang thing out in one...

The Tree

Image
Looks pretty much the same as it always does. I've got a couple new ornaments on there but for the most part, it's my usual tree. I try to get a new ornament or two each year in hopes that if I'm ever able to graduate to a larger tree, I'll have plenty of ornaments with which to decorate it. The only thing really different this year is that my little three footer is sitting on the floor instead of the coffee table in front of the window like it did at the house. Speaking of trees and windows, though...a neighbor across the street from me has a big lush one set up in front of her front window. Our duplexes have the long windows in them so you can pretty much see the entire tree. When it's lit up at night, it's really very pretty. She uses white lights on hers. I'm a colored lights gal, myself. I like the ones that "dance" too. hehehe Feels more festive to me. And reminds me of home. When we were kids we had those big fat old fashioned colored ligh...

A Thing of Beauty...

Isn't it?? We all got new flat screen super sized monitors. I think I'm in luuurrvvvv. hehehe And just so ya'll can see where I'm usually typing from... My cube. Brownie points for the first person to figure out what site's on my monitor...hehehehe (I know of at least ONE person who should be able to guess fairly easily. lol)

Call me crazy but...

As Christians, shouldn't we be more concerned about our fellow man's soul than what he chooses to call the decorated tree in his home or which sentiment he chooses to express?? The whole message of Christmas is peace, love, joy--all things Christ was born of. The reason for the season is that Jesus, savior of souls, was born as God in the flesh. He came to earth in the most humble of manners--a baby born in a stable among animals and spent his first night on earth in a manger full of hay. He did this so that he could minister to the world and eventually die for our sins. This is what we, as Christians, celebrate. This is WHY we celebrate. What do I care what my fellow man calls a tree when he's most likely lost and condemning himself to an eternity in hell? Instead of judging him, forcing him to say "Merry Christmas" or even "Happy Holidays"--show a little love. Witness by way of example. Show him what it really means to be a Christian--what Christmas is...

Great news!

Finally got news from Mama...Catherization showed no signs of heart attack or blockages. So yay! AND... I got my computer back!! Double yay! Nothing but good times ahead. hehehehe

I Wish I Drank

I think this week would have been so much easier to swallow if I'd had a buzz goin' on. lol Haven't heard anything from my mom's test, yet. I'm hoping someone thinks to call me. *sigh* Still have not gotten my computer back. I got a message this morning while on the ref. desk computer that they're having to rebuild it. *sigh* Anyway, I did get a little pick-me-up by way of a book. I finally got my copy of Shreve Stockton's The Daily Coyote . Thanks to Heather, I discovered the blog by the same name The Daily Coyote a couple of months ago. After inhaling the archives, I was pleased to find that she was releasing a book about her life with the rescued coyote named Charlie. The description is as follows: (from amazon) When photographer and writer Shreve Stockton decided to move back to her beloved New York from San Francisco, she decided to take her time and make the trip on her Vespa. When she reached Wyoming, Shreve was captivated by the red dirt, the Bighor...

A Craptastic Day

Truly, truly, this has been one of the most craptastic days. Week, actually. First, yesterday morning my mother informed me of a procedure that my estranged grandfather is having. He didn't tell us. No, he never does. One of my cousins who is also estranged from him found out by accident (eavesdropping on her mother and our step-grandmother, no doubt) and passed the info along to us. Apparently it was a minor procedure but because of his bad health there was potential for a number of things to go wrong...like, he could die. We haven't heard anything more so I'm assuming no news is good news. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to one day open the paper and find his obituary--or worse, have someone stop me somewhere to give me condolences and me not have a CLUE what they're talking about. When he said we were out of his life, he meant it, I guess. There have been countless other surgeries or procedures he's had over the years that we either found out the day of or ...

Disappointment. I haz it.

Grant (ghost hunters) put a privacy block on his MySpace. *sob* That's what I get for not "friending" him when I first found it. Now I bet he's not taking friends. Yeah. I'm a geek. I just loves me some Grant. And some Ghost Hunters. But mostly Grant. lol I'll hafta come back tomorrow to tell of my Thanksgiving week. Not a lot to tell but I'm too deep in dispair to think of it all now. ;-)
