The Turky, It Was Gooooood

Image
This long weekend review is brought to you courtesy of Deep Fried Turkey, Dressing and Pumpkin. So, Wednesday was a free day. A day all to myself. I slept till nearly eight, me and the Devil Pup hung out in our pj's and snacked, watched TV, rough housed and amused the UPS man. (Picture me with my hair haphazardly pulled up, a big T-shirt sans bra, baggy Betty Boop pj bottoms and bare feet and you'd understand why he visibly stifled a laugh when I answered the door.) In other words, we did nothing. It was nice. I haven't had a "nothing day" in a long while. Well, I did get my pumpkin turtle pie made but it took all of ten minutes so it doesn't count. And no, it doesn't have turtles in it. :-p~~ Thursday I got up early and put my cheesy California style veggies in the oven. After a phone call from Sis1 (who apparently appointed herself the boss of the weekend) to hurry up and get my tush to Mama's, I hung out a bit (just because she told me to hurry. I t...

I know Thanksgiving is over but...

Image
Heather had this on her blog and you KNOW I had to take the quiz... You Are Mashed Potatoes Oridnary, comforting, and more than a little predictable You're the glue that holds everyone together. What Part of Thanksgiving Are You? I highly doubt it since I'm usually stuck off in a corner by myself (since Sis2 got hitched, anyhow. We used to hang out in the corner together but...*sigh*) while everyone else is bickering or bustling around in the kitchen. I'm just one of about 25 people so, yeah. I ain't the glue. That would my mother and aunt. I am, however, ordinary, comforting and more than a little predictable. LOL

Something To Be Thankful For

You know this time of year always gets me thinking of and counting all my blessings. We go through life each day and it seems that more often than not, all we notice are the problems. We spend more time griping and lamenting about all the crap in our lives than we do noting and being thankful for all the GOOD in our lives. And so it is with this in mind that I'm counting my blessings. From the silly to the serious, it's all good and it's all things I'm truely thankful for. My health. I could stand to lose another 100lbs but I've managed to escape a lot of the obesity related illnesses that seem to plague a lot of people. And I can walk, stand, sit, and get around under my own steem. My family (yes, even my pesky brothers-in-law who I'd love to smack upside the head sometimes!) for they sustain me, support me, keep my head from swelling to big, love me and remind me each day how important it is to have those you love the most around you. I'd be lost without t...

My Mama the Hero

Or, Close Encounter of the Lizard Kind, Round II Yep. Mr. Lizard made his ghastly reappearance Saturday. You know, I'd driven that car a couple of times last week (sat in the car for about an hour Saturday morning waiting for the electricity to come back on in Wal-Mart so I could get my shopping done!) and hadn't seen/heard him. I'm driving home from town Saturday morning and start hearing a rustling sound. I prayed all the way home that he'd stay in hiding until I got home. And he did. It wasn't until I was walking past the car with the Devil Pup some two hours later, that I glance inside the car (as has become my habit since last Saturday's initial contact with it) when I saw it. It was sitting on the passenger seat as though it were waiting to go for a ride. I "Eeked" which got the DP excited and rushed her through her business. When I finally got her finished and in the house I went back out, grabbed the broom (because it's the champion's c...

Was It Really Just Gas?

So ya'll may have heard that Totino's and Jeno's recalled a bunch of pizza's a couple weeks ago. Any of them with pepperoni, to be exact. Yeah, they thought they might have been contaminated with E. Coli. (or a strain of it, anyhow. Can't remember what strain.) Just so happens Tontino's Classic Pepperoni and Jeno's Three Meat pizza are my two favorite forms of frozen pizza. I had one of each in my freezer. My mom was the one telling me about the recall one day last week. I didn't really think much of it because a) I hadn't heard about it on the news and b) our stores hadn't pulled them from the shelves. So I ate one. The Jeno's, to be exact. I'd eaten one the week before and hadn't gotten sick so I figured the odds were good that I wouldn't get sick this time. You know, I didn't really know anything about E. Coli. I had visions that being poisoned by it meant I'd be vomiting my guts out and generally miserable. When that d...

The Lake Part II

Image
Yep. More pics from last weekend's trip to the lake. Probably the last batch I'll post. Yeah, ya'll are sad, right? lol A sea of Lilly pads. Emmy was entirly enthralled with them. A lone picnic table. Beautiful driveway. A view from our picnic table.

Close Encounter of the Reptile Kind

So Saturday was interesting. I did a lot of "deep cleaning" around the house. Washed windows, vacuumed the odd hard to reach places I don't usually get to, etc. I had already decided on Friday that since all my family had desserted me I'd treat myself to lunch at my favorite place and maybe a movie on Saturday. So after I put away my cleaning supplies, I spruced myself up, put the Devil Pup to bed and hopped in the car. Two seconds later I'm jumping screaming from the car. A big brown lizard had decided that it was HIS car and I could show myself out. I don't know where exactly it came from but somehow it ended up on my hand and ya'll...you've never heard a fat white chick scream so loud or seen one move quite so fast as this one did. I was out of that car so fast I'm still dizzy from it. It was, bar none, one of the ickiest moments of my life. I know some of ya'll are laughing your butts off saying, "It's just a lizard." But you ...

Dude, what is WITH you?

I just found out some horrible things about a new(ish) co-worker I've been defending to a lot of folks since he started. My friend who works directly with him has been complaining since he started about what a jerk he is and his arrogance and I'd always defended him saying, "He's young, trying to prove himself, etc." Well, not anymore. Why? a) He loathes dogs. All dogs except for the English Bulldog. He actually called them stupid. I'll bet he'd even kick them! b) He thinks college sports history is more significant and important than The Wizard of Oz . c) He hates the smell of coffee and refuses to allow them to keep a coffee pot in their office. c2) He hates coffee. d) He hates chocolate covered almonds. e) When he was offered a mini-fridge to keep in his office, he declined. (I'd KILL to have a mini-fridge in my cubical!) f) He said if he ever dates/marries a girl with a cat, the girl will hafta get rid of the cat because he's allergic and refus...

Autumn At the Lake

Image
These are just a few. Maybe I'll share more later. ;) The mid-day sun was high in the sky casting a bit of a shadow but I sort of like it.

If you feel you must...

Okay, I just got a CNN bulletin about yet another school shooting--this one Finnish. Killed eight people before killing himself. I have just one thing to say to folks thinking about doing such a thing: If you feel your life is just so horrible and you just can not stand to live any longer--no matter how angry you may be--do us all a favor...Just kill yourself and leave the innocent people you'd otherwise kill alone! I don't think suicide is the answer to anything and certainly, if you're having suicidal (or homicidal!) thoughts, seek counceling. But if you're just hell bent on taking your life, go ahead and take it but don't take other's lives along with it! This just makes me so angry. Grrr... That so much tragedy is caused by people too stupid and evil to live anyway.

My sister sent me this one yesterday. I know you've seen emails with redneck type things before but this is REAL. LOL Goofus dreamed this up because Sis2 wanted a s'more but she was complaining that the chocolate doesn't melt. So this is what he came up with. hehehehe Yeah, that's a Coke can with the roasting fork stuck in it and a graham cracker, Hershey bar and marshmallow on it stuck in the fire. The graham cracker actually caught fire but Sis2 said it was a delicious s'more. ;-) This is another that Sis2 sent me yesterday. She took this one when we were doing our "photoshoot" for Mama. I think it's just too adorable not to share. She's such a sweetie. This next one is one that I took at the lake Sunday. That's me and Emmy, in case you've not been paying attention the past three years. LOL It's a "self-portrait" and I'm not too fond of the bloated way my face looks (not to mention the windblown hair) but that's my ...

Pictures Out the Wazoo!

Emmy's all up into Hannah Montana, as you can see. She was thrilled with her birthday party. Alyssa was in a terrific mood all day, as evidenced in the following three photos. She's pictured here grinning while my grandmother holds her. I'm pretty sure that was Daddy ( Bobo ) she was grinning at. She thinks he's hilarious . lol That's Emmy's hand tickling her... Emmy and Sis1 entertain her while Mommy and Daddy take a break. I tried to self-portrait me and the Libster in her costume but this was the best we got. She did NOT want to cooperate. lol You an tell by her expression just how NOT enthused she was. ;-) Nana insisted on a photo-op with her girls. That's all us "Hill" girls. A formidable thing, really, if you know us all. We're pretty scary. What's really funny is, I think the youngest generation of "Hill" girls are going to be the most formidable of all. hehehehehe Then it was time to get the fire started... Emmy get...

Birthdays, Bonfires and Babies

Also known as the Weekend Review, 'round these here parts. ;) I know I've been a bad blogger in recent weeks/months with my weekend reviews. I've been sort of lackluster. Of course, ya'll may appreciate the abbreviated versions I've been leaving. Who knows? Whichever way you prefer 'em, hang onto your britches, kids. It's gonna be long one today. So, Friday. As you may recall I mentioned that all us girls (plus Goofus) were supposed to meet for supper. I had my doubts that it would actually happen because things rarely ever work out the way I hope they will. Meaning: I usually get excited about something only to have my hopes dashed all to hell by everyone else's life interruptions/wishy washiness. Wonder of wonders, though, we actually DID follow through on the plans. Sis2 and Goofus (with Alyssa) actually beat Sis1 to my house. I was outside with Libby and when I heard a vehicle rounding the corner I just KNEW it'd be Sis1. Imagine my shock when i...

Idiot Neighbors

After a month of silence (I think he/they/whoever torments me from the cabin across the road have been gone) my neighbor(s) returned Wednesday night. Could they return quietly? Noooooo. I swear, I don't know what the crap is UP with these people but could they not do all their loud truck business (I think they were moving a broke down truck that's been parked there for months and got it stuck) during the daytime when no one else is around to be bothered by it? From the time I got home around 4:30 or so until well after dark (around 9, I think) they were outside behaving idioticially and loudly. Shouting back and forth at each other, spinning their tires, revving their engines. Not to mention that they had a big bonfire going for some reason which, in and of itself, I have no problem with. The problem is that when they left, they left the bonfire (albeit died down some) going. They didn't bother to put it out or make sure it's out completely. Totally irresponsible. Of c...
