A Goodbye Steak

No, I'm not leaving you. Sorry to get your hopes up. The good-bye is for a colleague,  G, who is leaving us for a new job. He's been around for 5 years and, I must say, is one of the easiest librarians I've ever worked with. Very professional. Kind. Patient. Dedicated. We all really hate to see him go. :-( So to wish him well, we took him out to supper (or dinner, as the yankee's in the group call it). We had a group of about twelve. Four of my co-workers brought their spouses. I didn't bring mine, though. D'oh! That's right! I don't have one! A fact that worked in my favor last night. You see, the restaurant G chose is kind of a pricier one. I've only been there about three times prior as a result but the food is stellar. I'm actually happy he chose it. As soon as it was announced where we were going, I already knew I'd be getting the steak. Their steak is the BEST I've ever wrapped my lips around, no offense to Daddy who grills a ...

A Monday For Sure

So I was supposed to have a working breakfast this morning. As of Friday afternoon, I was supposed to meet up with a couple of people at a local cafe at 7:30 this morning. Since I carpool with Mama, I had to make arrangements to drop her off and take her car to the breakfast meeting. We had to leave early to make it happen and everything. I got to the cafe a couple of minutes early so I went on inside and ordered coffee and informed the waitress that I had two others coming. And then I waited. Eventually took out my book and started to read a bit. Twenty minutes later, the other two hadn't shown. So I called in to the office to ask D to connect me with one of the peeps I was supposed to be meeting. (I don't have this person's personal number or office number in my phone.) D then tells me that the meetings I was supposed to have today had been cancelled/postponed. So no breakfast meeting. No phone call, messenger pigeon, no nothing to let me know this. Turns out, the cha...

Facepalm

So, as I mentioned earlier, I had a lunch date with my friends E and A. (Or A and E although that sounds like a cable network.) It was free tea day at a local deli so we went, ordered sandwiches and sweet tea (because sweet is the only way to drink tea, or didn't you now that?) and sat down. Everything's great. We're eating, swapping funny stories. I'm mostly over my snit with A since venting this morning. All's well and fun. Then the waitress comes over and asks if we'd like refills on our tea. So this is the kind of place where they hafta take your glass with them to refill instead of having a pitcher with them to re-fill your cups at the table. There are three of us at the table so the waitress takes A's cup and brings it back then take E's cup and refills. And then she just...she LEAVES. Without my cup.  I had even picked it up to hand it to her and she just walked away . Apparently the expression on my face was pretty hilarious because A and E fel...

On Working With Your Friends

Or maybe it should be "On becoming friends with people you work with" *sigh* Ya'll know by now that I am not the kind of person who makes friends easily. Oh, I know there are a couple of you out there who swear I'm super sweet and all that. Or at least you have in the past. haha But you also know that I am not a people person. Talking to, connecting with, and often even dealing with people  face to face is difficult for me. I have never had wonderful experiences with friends and friendships. Sure I have the BFF and there have been others throughout the years who I've counted as best friends or good friends. But honestly? There's always been a disconnect somewhere between me and them. A sort of distance. I've never felt truly accepted by anyone. I'm different. Odd in many ways and more often than not my friends end up either using me for whatever it is they can't get elsewhere or they end up writing me off and forgetting me. I'm pretty sur...

Working Girl

Not that kind of working girl. ;-) I'm just a Saturday working girl. Blah. It's my turn. I hate it when it's my turn. Especially since I'll have another turn week after next. *sniffle* Thankfully I've only got an hour and fifteen minutes left. So far it's been fairly quiet but that's usually about the time people decide to come in and ask complicated questions. The last Saturday I worked back in May, I had a patron come in 45 minutes before closing to look a collection we'd placed on hold for her weeks ago. And I don't know if ya'll have ever researched in an archived collection before but I will tell you--ain't know way you can get any meaningful research done in 45 minutes. I've got some pretty wild plans for after work, though. I've got a hot date with the new Wendy's Bacon Pretzel Burger and some grocery shopping at the Wal-Marts. (I don't ever actually call it "The Wal-Marts" and I don't actually know...

Life Happens

So last night was "girls night out". Only two participants, though. Me and E. A is gone to the beach (the heifer) and Mrs. B and Sis2 both bailed on us. Fortunately, E and I are good enough friends that we get along well when left to our own devices. We met up at Buffalo Wild Wings after work. I'd never been there before but E had and said she enjoyed it. It's mostly a glorified sports bar so not exactly my preferred atmosphere but the food was good and not terribly expensive so I might go back. We mostly just wanted to go somewhere different than our habitual trip to Applebee's. Mostly we've always gone to Applebee's because we like their Mudslides. The last few times we've gotten the mudslides, though, they haven't been all that great. Not enough Kahlua, man. Without the Mudslides to set it apart, Applebee's was negotiable. Anyway, we had fun at supper and ate WAY too much. Talked a lot, as usually happens. Not about anything scandelous...

Summer Fun 2013

Image
So yay! I've found an extra minute or two to actually blog. I'm not sure what to do with myself. Cry a little, maybe. ;-) So anyway, I know I promised some pictures AGES ago and then I disappeared. I've been disappearing a lot lately. Oopsies! But hopefully by September things will be better at work and at home. Then, of course, another a'splosion is scheduled to occur around the first of the year but we'll worry about that later. Mostly all I can really say about any of it is that BIG changes are coming in my professional life. Not sure how much of it will be good and how much of it will be bad. I'm praying for the best. But now...PICTURES!! Bobo (aka Daddy) turned 59 on the 1st. We took him to lunch at Mugshots. It's a burger joint with what I feel are the best burgers around. He'd never been there before and I just KNEW he'd love it as much as I do. Well, actually, I kinda knew what he'd say but I had to give it a shot anyway. While he d...

The Disappearing Jana

Ugh. Time is just...not on my side. Although, admittedly, yesterday I was off-line and off work doing fun things with the little ones. And the not-so-little-anymore ones. (Emmy's back in town.) But still...I have pictures I want to share! Stories I want to share! And time is just not working with me here. Meetings on top of meetings. Informal and formal timesuckers alike...MEETINGS! Ugh! All that to say...Tomorrow my last meeting wraps up as soon as I'm done feeding the person I'm meeting lunch and then I am YOURS. Well, yours and the annual report's that is due MONDAY. Ack! *runs away screaming*

Back But Barely

I did make it back to work/blogland today. But ya'll...Ugh. I soooooo wish I could have skipped this particular day. Came back to a hailstorm of exhibit committee work so I've barely had time to think. I did have a blast on my "stay-cation." I'll be back with deets and photos sometime later in the week. Can't guarantee when, though. Apparently all the projects/work I left behind for a week are still hanging around and waiting to be done! The nerve.... haha But I did want to breeze through and say "Howdy!" and "I missed ya'll!" So.... Howdy! I missed y'all! ;-)
