The Moon Rises

The Moon Rises unheeded,
Over a still autumn evening,
Birds and crickets serenading,
As the sun descends in the chill crisp air.

All alone I stand in the middle of the driveway,
Staring at the pale illumination,
The sky blue and darkening quickly,
As night approaches bringing the loneliness with it.

It settles around me like a blanket,
Leaving me cold and wistful,
Reminding of a time gone by,
When wishes were prayers and the moon went unseen.
