Fall Down Tired

Image
As quietly as the week started off, it sure did get super busy! After all them dag-blasted meetings yesterday--and I don't care what anyone says. Sitting in meetings for long periods of time can make a body just as tired as manual labor!--today has been a plethora of actual manual labor. I've been on my feet since 10:30 with only 30 minutes to sit during lunch. The rest of the time I've been here, yonder and everywhere putting out fires, filling complicated copy orders and cleaning up someone else's mess. I just now sat down for what will hopefully be a good hour or so until I go home. But, however tired I am and however much it may look like I'm complaining, I actually am thankful for the work, the job, the bone tired feeling of a good day's work. I don't always get that sense of accomplishment but I'm always thankful for the employment. :) Also, I weighed this morning and...ta da! I'd lost two pounds. So I celebrated with a caramel machiato, an...

Day in the Life

Okay, so I'm in between meetings and stuck at my desk until a student worker comes in so I thought I'd follow a few other blogs I've read lately and do a day in the life. Because this blog isn't dull enough. ;) Yesterday: 5:10am~The clock radio blasts Tony and Chris for a scant few seconds before I hit the snooze and roll over. I always aim to get up at 5:10 but rarely ever actually do. 5:19am~The clock radio blasts again. I consider hitting the snooze again but know it'll only make me late so I hit "off", roll out of bed and stumble to the bathroom. The next twenty minutes are consumed with potty, pills, shower and hair combing. Ya'll. It takes me a good ten minutes to comb my wet hair. 5:38am~Bed's made so I go get Libby up, scratch her back and belly, get a kiss and head for the kitchen. Libby head's straight to the door to go out but I stop at the fridge to pull breakfast from the freezer. I bought a box of Special K breakfast sandw...

I've been super busy today and tomorrow's not looking good either. Yes. Already. Meetings, meetings, meetings. Ugh, ugh, ugh. So. Here. Enjoy a new favorite of mine. Yes. I'm sending you to YouTube again. ;-) Enjoy!

Weekend Review: The Tub Edition

No. I'm not going to post photos of my disgusting tub for ya'll to gag over. But I will say, the biggest accomplishment of the entire weekend was bleaching and scrubbing that sucker. But I'm getting ahead of myself. So. Friday night was errand night. I got home an hour late because Mama and I had to run a boat load of errands after work. Gas. Air in tires. Prescriptions. I don't even remember it all. Except my being cranky about it. I always want to go straight home after work because, well, I like being at home. But keeping me away from home on FRIDAY evening? Miserable. Wonder of wonders, though, I survived. I still have to pinch myself to be sure. When I (finally) got home, I vegged with a frozen pizza (well, formerly frozen. I did actually bake it before consuming!) in front of the TV and did absolutely nothing the entire night. I don't think I did much Friday at all. I know I did some work type things, you know, at werk , but I mostly only remember the ...

Stuff of Nightmares

So. The fall season of new shows has already begun for some shows and since I have no life, this is a really happy occasion for me. So far I've tried out three new shows on NBC-- Go On, New Normal, and Revolution. The first two are both mediocre comedies I'll probably get by without ever watching again. They weren't bad, just not exceptional. I don't think I really laughed out loud during either of them. So I'd give them both a solid Meh. Revolution , unlike the other two, is NOT a comedy. It is a sort of disaster type drama about what happens when the world loses all sources of electricity and energy. Like, batteries don't even work. Nor do engines of planes, trains and automobiles. For serious. The world us plunged quite suddenly into the Dark Ages. haha This show is one of those brain twisters, much like Lost , so I'm willing to give it a chance. But ya'll...that stuff scared the CRAP outta me. Like...I had actual nightmares . It's like back ...

Goals? What goals?

Okay, so here's the part where I tell you that I am completely backslidden and putting the goals on hold. I honestly, well and truly thought that setting clear goals would help me stick to something but...well, LIFE. It happens. I am still not recovered from whatever I did to my knee back in the spring/early summer. In fact, it's worse now than it was. Ice and Advil help, but only temporarily and not for very long at that. Standing. Sitting. Laying down. It all hurts after more than a few minutes. I'm constantly in some sort of pain from it and FORGET doing any form of formal exercise. May as well shoot me. And the lattes...oh! the lattes! I was doing SO WELL for so long and then...I'd blame my friends but they're just the instigators. Not as if they put guns to my head and force me to partake. But do you know how difficult it is to walk to Starbucks and walk out with nothing ?? Painfully impossible, that's how difficult it is. Unfortunately, it's not ju...

Tricks and Treats

Image
No, this isn't an early ode to Halloween. Although...Holy cow, is it really mid-September already? Oy. Wait, what? Where was I? Right. Tricks. And treats. No, not a Halloween story. This is a Devil Pup story. Long time since we've had one of those, huh? It isn't that she doesn't do amazingly adorable stuff anymore. She's still the silliest most devilish princess pup I've ever known. Just I rarely have my camera available to capture her goofiness. So. To set the story up: Since she was a baby (puppy. whatever.) I've given her a certain brand of dental sticks to help her with her disgusting breath and such. They were sort of a long thin green raw hide thing with a minty flavor. The kid (dog. whatever.) LOVED them and so we sort of made a game out of it. I always referred to it as "brush your teeth" and she'd go wild if I so much as muttered the words "brush" or "teeth" no matter if they were in the same sentence to...

Back to Basics--Weekend Review

Remember when I used to do play-by-plays of my weekends? You don't? Because you always fell asleep halfway through them? Well good. Settle in for a nice snooze because I think I need to get back to blogging the way I used to. Boring or not, I need to write the stuff that gets me through the day so here goes. So, Friday was a stinky nasty awful day. I got into a verbal smack down heated discussion with a colleague that left me feeling rather...not great. So what did I do? I whined to anyone who would listen and self medicated with lots of food. Neither of which made me feel all that better about it. Not even the apology I eventually received from the colleague helped revive my mood. I understood why she behaved the way she had but the damage had already been done. Hate when that happens. But yeah. I ate honey walnut shrimp and orange chicken at Panda Express with my pal, A. Then Mama and I went to Captain D's for supper where I got the $5 seafood platter--four shrimp, one fis...

Goneness

Forgive the lack of postage this week, ya'll. This has been a crazy busy week and to be entirely honest, I just haven't had the heart to post. I'm tired, cranky and mostly just in dire need of a vacation from the entire planet. Story of my life, it would seem. I've full plans to take it easy this weekend and hopefully no one will gift me with anything gross and/or dismembered. haha If I can successfully navigate the weekend with my OWN head in tact, though, I'll consider it a win. 'Cause I gotta say, it's been a close call this week as to whether or not I'd get to keep it. Seems I'm just going through a complete fail stage and everybody and their brother is making sure I know it. So it's probably a good thing I HAVEN'T been able to blog this week. It'd be a week long whinefest. And nobody likes those. So ya'll be good, be safe and whatever else you do, be kind. Love ya!

Joy is...

stepping on a dead and dismembered lizzard with my bare feet and then having to clean up said dead and dismembered lizzard. Except not so much joy as it is yucky. (Gag.) Thanks, Milo , for a memorable weekend! Next time you want to get me a gift though, don't.

On Facebook

Sorry I seem to have pushed some buttons the other day on my post about Facebook. It was more of a "tongue in cheek" thing as far as my statement of "getting family news" through fb. I have not, nor will I ever , pressure or expect anyone to get a facebook account. I wish Sis1 hadn't and not just because I don't want to field her questions but because I fear her getting herself into trouble with it. To me, Facebook is like liquor--some people just can't use it responsibly. For instance, the newspaper article I read last week about a local firefighter who was fired for something he posted on his fb page regarding a "rescue" case he'd worked on that day. There are just some lines you don't cross on a social network and some people have to learn that the hard way. As for Sis1 getting family news from it, had she bothered to pay attention when people talked, she'd have already known the things she was asking me about. This is stuff t...

Just Kill Me Now

Sis1 finally got a facebook account. And I am in hell. *le sigh* For the past TWO DAYS, ya'll, she's been emailing me with questions about how does it work and how do you get to what and whatever. Then today she's been emailing me with questions about the things she's learning about our family members because she's been going through their profile pages and junk and she's all, "When did so and so happen?" And, "When did whatsherface have a baby?" She was griping because apparently nobody ever tells her anything and I said, "Now you can get the family news the same way everyone else does--On FACEBOOK." :-D

This, That, and My Mother

Image
So...the weekend went well...for me, anyway. My mother, not so much. Silly woman. She fell off a bicycle Sunday night and hurt her leg. Yes. She fell. Off of a bike. *rolls eyes and sighs* Seriously, I kept telling her that bicycle was a bad idea. She already has bad hips and other "issues" so you'd think she'd be a little more careful. But she was determined that since her foot is in such bad shape that she can't walk for exercise, she'd start riding a bicycle. Well, now that's out. Apparently when she took to the gravel road with it, the front wheel hit a clump of deep gravel, got stuck and sent her flying. She landed funny on her right leg and heard a snap. It's not swollen or anything but she can hardly walk. She went to the orthopedic doctor this morning (the one who treated my displaced kneecap in 2006) and he did an x-ray. Said it doesn't look like she did any real damage but could have possibly torn some ligaments or something. So she...

Feeling Better

I've had a decent couple of days so I'm tentatively feeling better. I've not stuck my foot in my mouth. I've been supportive and kind. I've stayed out of trouble and prayed. A lot. One of the better outcomes from the whole soul crushing experiences was my productivity level. Who knew stress made me so productive? It's the whole "trying to get my mind off of it" thing. I've shelved more books, trimmed more weeds (aka "weed eated") and washed more dishes in the past three weeks than I have all year. Not even joking. ;-) Meanwhile, my weight is pretty much stagnant at 250-ish. *le sigh* I can't even say that I don't know why because I do. It's called stress eating. The bane of an emotional eater's existence. But I'm okay with it for now. As I said the other day--"This too shall pass." One day my knees will simultaneously feel better, I won't be stressed and I'll find my determination again. Another...

Soul Crushers

You know how sometimes there's a person who everyone tells you is a monster and they share horror stories about that person and yet you think, eh, he/she can't be all that bad and you defend him/her even if it's only to yourself until one day that person is completely nasty to you and now you can't even look at him/her without recalling how truly horrible he/she treated you? Yeah. That. It's kinda soul crushing when you're confronted with the true colors of someone you really believed couldn't be as horrible as all that. It's happened to me a few times in the past month with a few different people. Hence, me not really being all that thrilled with life. Sad part is, these are people I'm in frequent contact with. People I really thought weren't as bad as others made them out to be. I honestly saw the best in them until they hit me upside the head with my rose colored glasses. And now it's misery to run into them because even though they'...

In the Kitchen

Image
So. Life has been full of weird dreams and angst lately but I'm only going to share the happy with you today. And where does most of the happy happen in my life? If you answered: "In the kitchen" you'd be correct. I'll send you a virtual cookie. ;-) This happened Saturday night. "This" being roasted sweet potato rounds drizzled in a heavenly candy-like mixture of peanut butter and maple syrup. I don't really like sweet potatoes unless they are mixed with tons of brown sugar and cinnamon and topped with a brown sugar, oats and pecan mix and/or marshmallows. Whenever anyone on the nutritional circuit says to swap out a white potato for a sweet potato my general reaction is less than mature. (It involves calling them "stupidhead" if that's any indication.) Because ya'll? The only thing sweet taters have in common with white taters is the "taters" portion of their name. Oh, and they both grow in dirt. Otherwis...

Enthusiasm

Image
This pretty much sums up how I feel about life at the moment. I'm faking it til I make it.

I done broke it.

I think I may have broken part of the fancy grandfather clock we have at work. *sigh* This is why I hate being the only one responsible for keeping it wound and set. Flip side of that is that I'm the only one who (so far) knows that that part is broken. And I'm torn between confessing that I broke that part and just leaving it be. It still keeps time, it still strikes on cue--just the chimes are messed up now. Messed up, as in, it no longer chime on cue and when it does begin to chime it doesn't stop.  So I just had to shut the chiming feature off. Which is fine, actually, since it normally chimed every fifteen minutes--annoying. Oddly, nobody's noticed the lack of chiming. But see, here's the thing--the dumb clock didn't work for YEARS and the only person who cared was the Head Cheese. It was a gift from a rich family and while it is certainly beautiful, it's a little high maintenance so we were all a little relieved that it didn't work. And then some...

Little Ballerina

Image
So, Alyssa turned five last Tuesday and had her party Saturday. Her theme, as you might recall, was Angelina Ballerina. Unfortunately, I'm a horrible aunt and FORGOT. TO TAKE. MY CAMERA. *facepalm* I know, I know. But I had to load up a ton of things in my car after very little sleep and complete brain fog. I'm lucky I remembered to grab her present! I didn't think about my camera until I was halfway there. Fortunately , Mama didn't forget her camera so maybe one day I'll have some photographic evidence of Lyssa's gorgeous party. So far, she's only shared one photo with me, though. Sis2 and Goofus built her a little "stage" out of a wood pallet and a sheet of plywood and decorated it with tulle and tissue paper flowers. The curtain behind her was a curtain panel that Mama and I picked up one day from WallyWorld and suspended with a tension rod. Believe it or not, Lyssa wasn't actually posing here. She didn't want her picture t...

Finally Friday Randomness

So I've actually been dreading this weekend. As in, I wish I could skip it. Don't get me wrong, I really am looking forward to seeing the kiddos tomorrow. The birthday party though? I could skip it and not cry. I hate parties and most especially ones that include Sis2's MIL. But beyond that, I dread the day because it's going to physically exhaust me. I've got to get over there early to help Sis2 finish getting her house cleaned and decorated. But even before that, I've got to go home tonight and make chocolate chip cookie dough truffles. AND I've got to get my own house cleaned up before Sis1 comes to spend the night tomorrow night. Normally, my house wouldn't take two shakes to look presentable. But for some reason, I've just not felt at all like keeping it neat. I've had that church history project that I worked on and made a complete mess with. Up until yesterday, I had my sweaty and gross jeans on the dining room floor where I left them la...
