Have A Spooktacular Day

Happy Halloween. Hope everyone's covered in chocolate. I asked Libby what she wanted to be for Halloween and she said, "I wanna be a weenie dog." hehehehe Actually, I was being silly and giving her options like a pirate or a werepuppy and it occurred to me that it'd be pretty funny if I could figure out how to dress her up as a weenie dog. hehehe Yeah, I'm warped. We know this. Let's get past it, shall we? I'm all set for tonight, though. I've got an assortment of candy and SciFi's giving us a live episode of Ghost Hunters at Waverly Sanatorium. My luck they won't see any evidence of any ghosts and it won't be scary at all but a girl can hope, right? If that doesn't work out, though, maybe there'll be something else on later. Or I can always take the DP outside. I'm pretty good at scaring myself silly outside after dark. The trees in my yard have started shedding their pine cones and acorns and do you know how creepy it sounds ...

Fully Dilated

My eyes, that is. I'm not in labor, fortunately. If I were, shockwaves would be felt 'round the world! LOL Yeah, so I had an optometrists appointment this morning. Since glaucoma runs in my family I had to have that checked and for that they had to dilate my eyes. Yuck. I look all freeky with the wide black pupils. Too bad I couldn't have had this done tomorrow. hehehehe Between the freeky dilated eyes and the dorky little shade type things I have to wear when outside or looking at the computer screen I look a real fright. ;-) But, I've got healthy eyeballs (no sign of glaucoma) and a worsening astigmatism. Yay on the healthy eyeballs but yuck on the astigmatism. I'll put it to ya this way, I'm so blind that there was a $30 Rx overage for each pair of glasses and I got two. Plus, she said that if I didn't get the thinner lighter lenses ($50 a pair) I'd have what amounts to "thicker than coke bottle" lenses. So yeah, I just had my wallet ripped ...

Bad Blogger

Last week was just one of those weeks. In between work being crazy, student workers being flaky, the rain and all the usual crap I was about ready to just burrow under the covers and not come out for a month. I really wish sometimes that I were a bear so I could hibernate. But then, I suppose we all feel that way sometimes. And heck, it could be worse. I could be out in California. I really do feel sad inside when I think of the devestation. I fear for friends that live out there, as well. It's just such a horrible thing. I just can't imagine what they're going through. That's why I decided not to complain about my week too much. It could have been much worse. I did burrow under the covers (metaphorically) this weekend, though. I only left the house long enough to blow my money on so-called groceries Saturday morning and that was about it. I stayed in, watched tv and ate all weekend long. Well, I did do some small cleaning type projects. I cleaned out under my kitchen s...

Happy Fall, Ya'll

Yeah, yeah, I know it's been officially Autumn for quite some time now but finally...FINALLY...it feels like it. Nice and cool. It could stand to be a tad touch warmer and a little less wet but heck. I'm so sick of hot temps I ain't gonna complain, ya know? Hard to believe that Halloween is next week, with this weekend officially being Halloween Weekend. I don't actually really celebrate Halloween. Haven't been trick-o-treating in years and haven't worn an actual costume since I was maybe ten, but I do love the Halloween season. The scary movies, the candy (tho I'm not actually supposed to EAT candy) the fun decorations and spooky themes. It's just a fun holiday. It's not quite what it was when I was a kid, though. Back then kids didn't have to have fancy storebought costumes, you could go to your neighbors houses to trick-o-treat without any real concern for contaminated candy. Heck, half the time we didn't even GET candy. Our neighbors (who...

Contest Closed

I'm really actually suprised but I already have a winner to the contest! My pal Julz got it right on my MySpace blog. Go Julz! She guessed correctly that I work at a library. My apologies to those who missed the contest. Maybe I'll have another one sometime soon. I've got a ton of books and junk to give away. ;-)

Contest, Bay-beeee!

Okay, so I received an extra copy of Eve Gady's The Christmas Baby in my recent order from Harlequin. I emailed Harlequin's order department and asked them if they wanted me to send it back but since it's been a week and I haven't heard from them (they probably think I'm nuts) I figured, heck, why not have a contest? It's a Super Romance so if you've been wanting to try a Super but don't want to spend your cold hard cash on one in case you don't like it, here's your chance. Plus, it's a Christmas themed book--to get you in the mood! (Because Christmas is like, a mere two months away, ya'll. hehehe) Or maybe you just want a free book. Either way, here's your chance to score a copy...and better yet, it's an advanced release so ya'll can have it a full month before your friends. Because, yeah. I can totally HEAR all the taunts aimed at your friends. *snicker* So here's the contest and rules. (It's almost too easy. lol) Q...

The Donut Master

My Ma-Maw sent me this and though I've read it before, it still makes me cry. So naturally I wanted to share it with ya'll. ;-) The Donut Master ================= There was a boy by the name of Steve who was attending college where Brother Christianson taught seminary. One day, Brother Christianson asked Steve to stay after class so he could talk with him. After class, Bro. Christianson pulled Steve aside and said, "You think you're pretty tough, don't you?" Steve's answer was, "Yeah, I do." Then Brother Christianson asked, "How many pushups can you do?" Steve said, "I do about 200 every night." "200? That's pretty good, Steve," Brother Christianson said. "Do you think you could do 300?" Steve replied, "I don't know... I've never done 300 at a time." "Do you think you could?" again asked Brother Christianson. "Well, I can try," said Steve. "Can you do 300 in s...

This, That and the Other

So apparently yesterday and last night was just the night of the twisters or something. We didn't have anymore go over us, but there were warnings out all over northeast Mississippi, all through Alabama and apparently there was one spotted in Pensacola, FL. Not to mention, Trix said they had watches in Wisconsin. Weird. I don't mind rain or even a good storm. But tornadoes? Blech! Yesterday just must have had "sucky" written all over it. Besides the twisters, I got reprimanded at work yesterday afternoon. (not like, formally. I didn't get written up. Just gotten on to.) Part of it was exactly my fault and I deserved it. I knew better and did it anyway because, well, I got tired of being the little dutch boy holding his finger in the dam. And I figured, the same thing gets done to me so why not? (very mature way of thinking, huh?) The other thing that was brought to my attention, well, not too happy about because, well, I think it's silly and wildly unfair. I c...

Excitment Ahoy!

Just got back from the first floor of the building where we were evacuated to about thirty minutes ago. Tornadoes. Fun. Apparently two tornadoes were spotted near campus. The sirens kicked on and nobody moves. We're so used to phantom sirens that it just didn't alarm us. Well, me anyway. It's been rainy and messy but not what I considered tornado weather. One of our students (who doubles as a friend of mine) came around to my desk sort of semi-concerned and was like, "What should we do with the sirens going off?" I was like, "It's probably a test or something. Usually if it's anything serious they'll put an announcement on the intercom." Not a minute later the announcement came. "Severe weather has been spotted in the immediate area, please proceed to the first floor for further instruction. Please do not try to leave at this time." So off in a flurry we go. Well, those of us with any real sense were in a flurry. You'd be surpri...

Nesting...WTCrap?

I think I'm nesting or something. I've got this insane (for me) urge to clean and be all domestic. Doing the sort of chores that I NEVER do. I dusted the ceiling fans this weekend. Last weekend it was scrubbing the bathtub. It's like I have a need to have all the really gritty parts of my house clean and sparkly. Which makes no sense. I'm not pregnant or in a relationship and it's highly unlikely that either situations will occur anytime soon--if ever. Maybe I'm simply nesting on behalf of Sis2. Her nesting instincts still haven't kicked in and Lissa is exactly 2 months old! LOL Too bad I can't nest at her house. To hear her tell it, her house is a pig sty these days. Which at one point in my life I'd have brushed it off as her having left a magazine on the coffee table but...Yeah. Funny how being married, having a baby and working 12 hour days can turn the neatest neat freak into a slob. ;-) In other news, Lissa's baby dedication was Sunday. My ...

I'm A Bad Mommy

Or so Libby would say. *sigh* She was SO not happy with me last night. I finished reading that TTQ (taking an hour's break to watch Ugly Betty ) and Libby did everything devilish she could think of to distract me, irritate me and generally take my attention from the book (which was awesome, btw) and onto her. She kept faking me out saying she just HAD to go outside. I took her out THREE TIMES in a 3o minute time span and she didn't do ANYTHING. Well, anything other than sniff the dirt and bark at the neighborhood posse of dogs. So yeah. I'm a bad mommy. Despite the fact that I normally wait until we go to bed (she in her crate and me in my bed) before I crack open a book for the sole reason that I feel like I'm cheating her out of playtime if I read while she's awake. I know. She's a dog. But she's also my baby, ya know?

Play that Funky Music...

White girl? hehehe I'm currently groovin' on Kelly Clarkson's My December . Love it, love it, love it. Even if some of the song titles don't make that much sense to me. The songs are good and that's all that counts, right? And yes, I know I'm a late purchaser since the thing's been out since June. (Or was it July?) I hadn't heard much about it's release even though I've been wanting a new KC CD for some time, now. BUT, it worked out well. By not jumping the bandwagon on the first week of release, it was a little bit cheaper. Besides, ya'll know me. Always on the tale end of the cutting edge, right? Of course, the DP is in total rebellion that I've spent more time this week up dancing around like the idiot I am than sitting parked on the couch doting on her. But there again, she's also put out with me for daring to read , too. But she's just gonna hafta get over it. I started a new Tara Taylor Quinn Yesterday and it's kickin...

I "Heart" Chuck

Image
Ah, Zachary Levi, how gladst I ameth that thou art backeth on television. And in the charming role of a nerd turned double agent spy. If you haven't seen it, do so. Now. Well, next Monday. At 7. Trust me. It'll make your Monday. Seriously, I'm such a dope. I can't help it. I loves me some adorable nerds. But dress the already adorable Zachary Levi (formerly of "Less Than Perfect"...I think.) as a nerd and Yum-O. Don't know what it is about 'im that gets me but the boy does make me grin and get all goofy. (Not that I'm not usually goofy, anyhow.) But yeah. Chuck. *swoon*

Let Me Eat Cake

Image
Birthday cake, that is. Last Tuesday was Sis2's big 3-0 and we had her birthday party Saturday. It wasn't so much a party as it was the family getting together to eat and make merry. Or something like that. She and Lissa dragged Goofus (presumably kicking and screaming) up here Friday night to spend the night. Unfortunately I a) was already comfortably ensconced at my own home by the time they decided to make the trip and b) had no desire to sleep on Mama's uncomfortable couch (been there, done that) so I didn't go. I waited and got up early Saturday to drive out for the day. Yeah, Sis2 and I were SUPPOSED to go shopping Saturday but Mama (even knowing our plans and how much we were anticipating going) guilted Sis2 and Goofus (who was all to happy to comply as it meant Sis2 wouldn't be ditching him for the day) into going to visit our grandparents instead. (my mom's folks.) Yeah, I know it was more important that our grandparents get to see Lissa but dag-gummit!...

Sometimes Dear Abby Ain't What You Need

Okay, so I confess. I've never been much of an advice column reader. I find it difficult to believe that a person who doesn't know me could ever help me with anything. There are, however, plenty of folks who DO write to them, read the columns and find comfort/help/good advice/ect. through advice columnists. To those people I say, "Good for you!" Nothing wrong with it. It's just not my cup of tea. We all take help where we can find it sometimes. In recent months, however, out of sheer boredom, I've begun skimming the Dear Abby column. Part of my "new" job is to "read" newspapers from throughout the state to mark them to be clipped for research purposes. (what we call verticle files) As you might can imagine, reading newspapers day in and day out can become somewhat of a sleep-aid. To keep myself awake, I skim Dear Abby. (and the comics) Like I said previously, if you find comfort or help in seeking her advice, more power to you. But folks? ...

Not A Lot...

...To say, at least. Life as usual. Thankfully no dramas but nothing exciting either. Well, nothing other than that today is Sis2's 30th birthday! Can ya'll believe it? Well, ya'll probably can because you don't know her (other than what I've written about her) but I can't believe it. Especially since her turning 30 means that I'll be 29 in March! thud picking self up and brushing off pants She and her small crew are coming this way at some point this weekend. Not sure when. I've a feeling that were it up to Goofus it would be never. He's such a...well, it's not polite to call your brothers-in-law names, but he's a big butthead. (Yeah, I'm currently in the infuriate part of our tolerate/infuriate relationship. What? You thought we had a love/hate? Nah. Both of them's too strong emotion for us. I'd say indifferent but that implies something else altogther. Thus tolerate/infuriate. Besides, he's lucky I speak to him most days. ...

What Stupidity Gets You...

or doesn't get you. It doesn't get you custody of your kids. If you don't know what or who I'm talkin' about, hang tight. You will. More than you ever thought you could stomach, I'm sure. Stupidity also gets you into months of rehab. But rehab's good, if you take it to heart and don't just use it as a vacation. *sigh* Would that I could afford to be stupid. I don't have any kids to lose or a crazy lifestyle that needs vacationing from...though a few months in the mountains of Utah sounds pretty good to me. I'd just enjoy not having to be a grown up all the time. And I don't even get credit for BEING a grown up. Ah, but that's a rant for another day. Today's tragedy is this...if the best option those kids have is a man who left his girlfriend and their two kids to "marry up" with a washed out pop start, those kids are doomed. I sorta wish Angelina and Brad would adopt 'em. ;-)

Present and Accounted For

Just busy. You know, werking . Novel concept, that. ;-) Just thought I'd let ya'll know in case you were wondering whether or not the boogieman had gotten me. Which, last night, I thought for sure he had. Took the Devil Pup out around 9:30 or so and ya'll, I don't know what was in the woods but I didn't stick around to find out. Me and the Libster booked it back inside. The neighbors dogs started barking and Libby was all alert and there was something rustling around in the woods that I couldn't see. Didn't help at all that I'd just watched the season premier of Ghost Hunters , but I was thinking more along the lines of something or someone living. Not fun.

Scary Facts 101

After 28 years, my eyebrows have finally decided to start corresponding with my hair color. Yeah, folks. I had mostly blond eyebrows and dark hair up until the past year or so. Don't know what's up with that. I mean, not that I liked looking as though I didn't have eyebrows it's just--I've lived so long without them, my face looks weird to me now. :-/ On the flip side, now that they're getting dark, I have to pluck them! Yikes! I've never had to pluck before. It sucks getting old. Or old er anyway. You know, eyebrows aside, there's a lot of other things that have changed as I've gotten older. Say, for instance, my body shape. I've always been heavy but up until the past couple of years or so, it was fairly well distributed. Now it seems that a little bit more than I'd like is settling around my gut. Not perty ya'll. Not. Perty. And it makes all my clothes fit wonky, too. Clothes that used to fit perfectly gape in strange places. And eve...

What I did on my vacation... Gazing up at her dear old Aunt Jana. Getting ready to roadtrip. Libby's the perfect babysitter. Sittin' pretty. Takin' a snooze in her mama's arms. Gettin' kisses from Mama. Chillaxin' With Cousin, Emmy. With Mama and Daddy.
