Spiritual Nurishment

I received this via email and thought I'd share it here. Makes sense to me! :-) A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all." This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: "I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this... They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would ...

Wrestling with a Rug: The Sequel

Rugs, they are going to the be the death of me, as surely as I breathe. I fully expect one to someday just reach up from the floor and strangle me. They just haven't tortured me enough yet. *sigh* But we'll get to that in a moment. So Saturday was a strangely good day. You know this whole buying a house with some acreage would eventually lead me into lawn mower hell, right? Well, Daddy and I talked Friday night about picking one out this weekend. Both Lowe's and Sears had their big Memorial Day weekend sales with the 12months same as cash deals. I wasn't all that excited about it, really. Mostly because I don't know what my cash flow is actually going to be like once I start making mortgage payments...since I don't actually, you know, KNOW what my mortgage payments will actually be. But I thought, okay. It's something I'm going to have to have anyway and if I can get a good deal on one, I may as well. I prayed about it all night that the Lord would show ...

Happy Long Weekend!

With the Memorial Day weekend upon us, I wish you all a safe and happy holiday weekend. Don't drink and drive, drive safely and shop some extra sales for me. Looks like I'm gonna be Memorial Day shopping for a lawn tractor. Yay. Or not. Have ya'll priced those things recently? Yikes! But both Lowes and Sears are having some great sales this weekend so Daddy and I are going to go check them out and possibly go in together to buy one. He seems to think he'll be doing most of my mowing but I want to get one that I can use, too. Not that I WANT to mow, but you know, I like being able to do things for myself when and how I want them done and I DON'T want to have that "well I mow your lawn for you" hanging over my head for the next decade. *shakes head* In other lawn related news, mine at the apartment finally got mowed! Yay! And it's already starting to grow back! Boo! But at least for the next little while, the Devil Pup can pee without getting her little ...

Well, actually, not so much a field of clover as it is, the yard in front of my apartment. Lawn need mowing much? LOL

Surviving AC/DC Pt. II

Okay, so, where was I? Right, we got to Sis1's house around 10:30 or so. No sooner had we parked the truck than Emmy was running outside like a monkey and hopping around all excited. Of course she went straight to Lyssa and I, the favorite aunt, barely rated a hello. Well, sort of. I think she did hug me. You know, I don't think we actually did much at all except eat. I know we sat in the floor and played at odd times throughout the day but mostly I remember eating. When we first got there, Sis1 had just pulled some orange danish rolls and some sausage rolls out of the oven. We all dove face first into those because, yeah. The sausage egg and cheese Freschetta? Totally gone by then. I sipped on coffee and made small talk with BIL's mom who confused me with Sis2. I tried not to be too miffed about it since now that Sis2 has put on some lbs we actually look a lot more alike than we used to. And I did carry Lyssa inside when we first got there. So yeah, can't really hold i...

Surviving AC/DC

What luxury I had this weekend. *swoony sigh* Because I was going to T-Town for Emmy's recital Saturday, Mama agreed to Libby-sit for me. She came by Friday evening and took my baby home with her and oh, my, gosh. What luxury to sit and watch an entire episode of Ghost Whisperer without a devil pup breathing in my face or scratching at the door to go out. Heaven knows I love that little pup, but boy wasn't it nice to have a break. So in honor of my "free" night, I picked up a pizza and wings from Pizza Hut. My plan was to wait until after Mama had taken Libby home with her before going to get my treat. But Daddy threw a monkey wrench in those plans by surprising Mama with supper out. So she dropped me off at home and went on to meet Daddy for supper leaving me with the Devil Pup for a couple hours more than I'd anticipated. Which, yeah, I coulda waited a couple of hours but in a college town, it's best to order things like pizza early b/c after 5 o'clock t...

Meet My Future Home

Image
I realized the other day that while I've been whining about mortgages, Realtors and all the other odds and ends of buying a house I hadn't really told ya'll much ABOUT the house. It's as though I went from, "I want to buy a house" to "I've made an offer and crap it's a lot of work." At least, I couldn't find where I'd told ya'll any specifics. That's a total lapse on my part because I feel as though I've told EVERYONE about it. LOL So, here it is. My future home. Three bedrooms, two baths in a little more than 1200sqft on 1.5 acres of land. It's got central heat and air, a tiny little kitchen (as in teeny tiny), lots of windows, a laundry room just off the kitchen and a carport!! It's situated about a mile and a half away from my parents out in the country. My sisters think I'm crazy to want to live that close to the parental units and that far out of town (45 minutes from work) but I can't imagine that the...

Emmy the Artist

Image
My niece's class recently held an art show in which they each displayed a work of art in the "gallery." Here Emmy stands with hers (the blue and red on yellow matte). I'm going to have to get her to interpret it for me when I see her this weekend. ;-)

Next Step

Okay, so more house news: Called today and set up the appointment for the inspection. We're meeting Thursday morning to get that done. I'm really hoping they don't find anything major. While it would be the seller's responsibility to repair it, it would push the closing date (and my moving date) back. Which I don't want to happen. So fingers crossed on that. I'm excited to know, though, that the inspections going to cost me a little more than half of what I thought it would. Turns out, smaller houses are less expensive to inspect. So color me happy. (and a little greener.) Also ordered some drapes for the house. I know, probably a little premature, but I knew what I wanted and wanted them here at least by the time I move. Turns out they're on back order and should be here by the middle of June. So I may not have them EXACTLY when I move, but close enough. And they'll look GREAT with my furniture. :-) Turns out we won't be signing my contract until T...

A Big Fat YAY!

Image
So, I have some great news. My realtor called me late Friday afternoon and informed me (warning: Shouting ahead) THE SELLER ACCEPTED MY OFFER!!! Woooo hooooo! We're supposed to get together sometime today to get the rest of the paperwork fixed up so that we can get it to the bank but I haven't heard from her yet. I'm calling her in a little bit just because I'm impatient like that. lol But yeah, I ended up calling the realtor after I got home from work because, hello. Three days is a ridiculous amount of time to have to wait on knowing whether or not an offer on a house has been accepted. I got her voicemail, though, so I left her a "Please call me back and let me know something. I'm getting anxious here," message and she called me back about 30 minutes later with the good news. Apparently she'd known earlier in the day but didn't have a chance to call me. She's busy and important, you know. Anyway, I think I floated most of the weekend. Am sti...

Staff Appreciation Day 2009

Yar, maties. Or however you spell it. This year's SAD theme was pirates. Maybe a little in poor taste with the resent pirate situations but food and fun was had. I didn't do much more beyond eat, though. First thing we did when we got there at 10 was head for the hotdog stand. Then immediately went for the snow cones. I had the wedding cake flavor. Yum. Then while we stood in line to get "tattoos", we ate ice cream. And THEN we went and got lunch. It was at this point that I decided, yeah. I'd better stop before I barf. hehehehe I did manage to not get terribly sunburned this year. My friend A. remembered to bring sunscreen (which I never do remember to do) and she shared. I think my face still got a little too much sun, though. I can feel it getting a little "tight." *sigh* Fortunately it didn't get quite as hot as predicted. At least it didn't FEEL like 90 degrees. There was a good wind blowing, though, so I can only guess. All I know is I didn...

How Math Can Give A Heart Attack

Never let it be said that at least SOME forms of math aren ’t important in everyday life. And a sign that you’ ve become far too dependant on calculators? You can no longer even do even the most basic of math—subtraction—without one. *sigh* Last night while I was giving the Devil Pup her millionth belly scratch I had the notion that maybe she was getting a bit thick in the middle. They say the best way to tell if a dog is overweight is to see if you can still feel their ribs. Well, Libby’s were a little hard to find though I did manage to find them. So I thought, hey, I’ll weigh her. Anyone with a dog or other pet knows you can’t exactly get them to stand on a bathroom scale long enough to get their weight to register. Heck, the vet can hardly get them to stand still on those big veterinarian scales. No, the best way to weigh them is to weigh yourself, then hold the dog (or other pet) and weigh yourself with your pet in your arms. Subtract your weight from the combined weight and voil...

Good News Walking

I don't think I ever got around to telling y'all, but Daddy had an excellent doctor's report Monday. His white blood cell count is down in the 100's now from the 300's it was in when he was first diagnosed. Doctor said this is VERY good and that given this quick of a response the meds, he expects Daddy to be doing super by this time next month when he goes back. No, he isn't cured, but he's well on his way. So yay! On the house front, I'm now waiting to hear back on whether my counter offer to the seller's counter offer has been accepted. Fingers crossed. I so want to be a homeowner by this time next month. Which, if the seller replies fast, could definitely be a possibility. Mortgage officer told me last night (when she finally called me back) that if we get all the paperwork in by the end of this week, we could totally close by the end of the month. If not, it'll be the first of June. Which would suit me, cause that would mean my first mortgage...

A Deluge

Late Friday afternoon my realtor finally got back to me with the seller's counter offer. I don't really like it as it's not as low as I'd hoped AND he's rushing the close which would put me in a bind with my lease/rent and the like. *sigh* I've put in a call to my mortgage officer, though, to see what she thinks about the quick close and when my payments will start and then I'll know better what I want to do. I want to be able to counter offer with the price I was really hoping for and if I can work out the close date he wants he might go for it since I'm fairly certain he's pushing the date so that he doesn't have to make another mortgage payment. And heck, I'd love to be able to move in June instead of July. The quicker I can get away from all the noise and bothersome neighbors the happier Libby and I will be. Ah, but I had a happy Friday night and Saturday. Next door neighbors were GONE all Friday night and most of Saturday. I think they g...

Dead Quiet

Today being the last official day of finals, campus is extremely quiet. Student population has dropped at least by half and anyone still hanging around is only here because they have to be. However, this quiet is merely the calm before the storm called Graduation Day--which is tomorrow. I'm staying in my apartment and daring anyone to try and tempt me out of it. lol I took off this morning to run errands--get the Devil Pup's nails clipped, drop my rent off, get oil changed in car--and decided that it would be perfect to just go head and get my grocery shopping done this morning, as well. Super smart of me, eh? So I truly DON'T have to venture beyond my yard tomorrow. No reason why I'd want to. Restaurants will be full beyond capacity, traffic will be a zoo and retailers will be hopping. BUT, come Monday, there will be a little slice of heaven come to town when all the students are gone save for the dedicated few who are taking Maymester classes. (The new-ish, short seme...

The History Channel Gave Me Nightmares

As I've mentioned before, Tuesday nights aren't my favorite TV nights. I've yet to find anything that held my attention for more than an episode or two. So with that in mind, I busted out my latest Netflix disc and watched Love in the Time of Cholera . And if the title alone isn't depressing enough, it's about a dude who pines for the same woman forEVER (even though she ditched him and married another) and they don't hook up until they're both old enough that they're ready to die. Yeah. Not the most enthralling movie I've ever seen. But then, once the movie ended, I was flipping channels and came across the History Channel's series Life After People which is interesting and frightening all at once. You know, frightening because WTC happened to all the people?? And interesting to see how the earth reclaims itself once we're no longer around to torture it. For the record, I am a Christian and am waiting for the rapture of Christ. So I get that...
